Voice Thermo Talking Forehead Thermometer – wow you’re hot, dude

The Voice Thermo Talking Forehead Thermometer is apparently the world’s only such device. Which is probably a good thing. It’s not that we object to the concept of a forehead thermometer, you understand? We’re all for them. It’s just the idea of the thing shouting out our problems for all to hear is just not cool. Oh no. It works via an infrared signal which measures the temp of the forehead skin in about 1.5 seconds. And saves the readings from the last 30 tests. Which is cool. €39.95.

Put simply the sensor button on the forehead. At the push of a button, an infrared signal sent forehead skin and the sensor in measuring head caught again. In just 1.5 seconds, the exact body temperature in the display: in perfectly legible 10-mm-digits – on request as a voice message. Quick and painless fever measure, even if your child is asleep. Even with ear infections.

  • I’ll bookmark this for when I have my own kids, thanks for the news! :)

  • Yeah and never mind that the forehead is a really bad indicator of fever (way too many false positives and some added false negatives–even for quick checking the ear canal is supposed to be better). Who needs science when you can buy piece of mind?

  • @F.Squeeze, really? I didn’t know that. So it wouldn’t be that accurate eh? Shame, it seems like a great way to grab a temperature without all the traditional hassle.

  • Yeah, our doc says taking kids’ temperature is pretty much a waste of time too, regardless of where the temperature is taken. There’s just too much variation to be sure.

  • People have been feeling foreheads for thousands of years no doubt to check for fever and may give some useful general information. It is just when you try to make a useful but knowingly vague indicator into something specific and “scientific” that problems are created.

Anyway, under tongue gauges are fine but harder to get accurate because it can be hard for some people/kids. The arm pit is actually a little easier than under the tongue and usually easier. The ear canal, while not 100% accurate, has been shown as the best quick and non-invasive temperature estimator. The forehead thingy for that ridiculous price is pretty much a waste of money–you might have a fever but I cannot be bothered to wake you!

  • I’ve had one of these for ages. I got it from a Lloyds Chemist for 10 about 3 years ago – maybe more. Same shape etc, but I don’t recall the name.

It’s not that good to be fair as you can get very different readings each time you use it. Plus you can’t rely on the actual reading. I’ve found the best thing to do is use it to take my temp then take the kids. If it’s a lot higher – they’re ill.

I thought it would be good to take temps at night because shoving the ear thermometer in wakes up the kids. So you soon turn off the speaking because it’s too noisy!
