VoIP speed test.

MyVoIPSpeed Test. The folk at Visualware have introduced another free online test, this time to let you know whether your broadband line is good enough for VoIP Internet calls. Sounds a bit arcane to us, but possibly worth a check if only to see why the voice on the other end sounds like it’s coming from Alpha Centauri.

MyVoIPSpeed simulates VoIP traffic over your Internet connection and measures the quality for VoIP conversations. The speed test measures your current download/upload connection speed by timing actual data transfers, which may be negatively affected by other programs/users sharing your broadband connection during the time of the bandwidth test, or even Internet congestion.

  • Just an fyi: Not so arcane…

When I was in the states, I hardly ever bothered with these types of tests. A recent move to Puerto Rico changed this. The connection here is a bit flaky and all other bandwidth tests told me my Down and Up streams were what I expected them to be.

Never been able to do any VoIP or Video Streaming and this particular test really isolated some of the problems. I don’t expect that it will fix the issues here (infrastructure) but at least I can send my ISP (Liberty Cable) additional information that will no doubt point to some serious issues with the service, in particular: Packet Loss and Connection Jitter information.

PS: Keep up the truly great work on this site – one of my favs!!

  • Aha twocents, thanks for the feedback, that explains a few pointers. Thanks for the kind words too, always nice to hear. :-)

  • Nice sharing…I am using Broadband internet connection…..I have checked the internet speed using the site it shows speed in Mbps and MBps measurement.
