What’s The Fare? – new free online service lets you compare fares between Uber, Lyft and a taxi cab in an instant

what'sthefare

The taxi business is under threat from lots of places, but the worst has to be the new upstarts like Uber and Lyft. These crowd-sourced transport services use clever computer algorithms to compute fares and make pick ups really easy, and really cheap. No wonder that the conventional cab companies are going nuts. But it tends to be hard to know which service is actually going to be cheaper for you per trip, except now there’s a way.

What’s the Fare is a new free online service which lets you enter in any start and destination points and see which service, conventional taxi, Uber or Lyft, is likely to be the best price for you at that time. The estimated fares are based on distance and time, so they’re not guaranteed to be accurate.

We thought it was interesting that a journey from New York to L.A. would actually be cheaper by regular cab than by Uber or Lyft, which is weird. And that’s including a standard 15% tip. Anyway, it’s a clever idea and probably also deserves an app (which should be able to order the best priced option from your phone).
