WiFi Kill – fight back against WiFi network hogs with one [naughty] little click [Freeware]

Ever been in a cafe which offers free WiFi and struggled to get anything done because someone else in there is hogging all the bandwidth watching YouTube videos of kittens? Yeah, we share your pain. Some folks don’t seem to understand that free WiFi is a social contract, you don’t abuse it and we won’t. Otherwise we just can’t have nice things.

Well now there’s a rather naughty tool that could let you fight back. WiFi Kill is a freeware app for Android which lets you remotely disable internet access for network hogs. The app needs root and only works on Android 4.x, but it is tablet friendly and will give a detailed view of who’s using how much bandwidth on the network you’re logged on to.

Once you’ve grabbed the information you have a Kill button which gives you the power to teach them a lesson about equality, fraternity and throughputs by literally killing their WiFi connection remotely. We have a sneaking suspicion that this is highly dodgy if not illegal in some places, so you use it entirely at your own risk, but one good thing is the freeware version shuts down after 5 minutes, so it’s going to be hard to abuse unless you pay money.

You remember how much ‘fun’ people had with TVBeGone? Well get ready for some more hijinks at an airport lounge near you soon.
