Is there anything better than taking a quadcopter for a spin through the air? Yes. Taking a quadcopter for a spin through the air and seeing what it sees.
The X4 FPV Quadcopter isn’t just any aerial toy. Sure, you have the lightweight, durable frame and four propellers that other quadcopters have but it’s the built-in camera that makes this copter stand out. The camera records at 0.3 megapixels with a resolution of 640 x 480, and the 5.8GHz frequency that it works at won’t interfere with the Quadcopter’s 2.4GHz frequency.
A live video feed, with a range of approximately 100 meters, is displayed on a screen on the RC transmitter and the video footage can either be played back on the transmitter or saved into a micro SD card in the transmitter with up to 16GB of storage, making it easy to pretend you’re a slick secret agent that just got their hands on some top-secret information by using this ultra-classified spy gadget.
The X4 FPV Quadcopter will be available in November but it can be pre-ordered now for £179.95/$287.96.
Looks and sounds fun but is the 0.3MP camera a little poor for this to be workable? Those specs seem worse than many low-budget front facing smartphone camera’s and they are very grainy footage at close up range, for something that is recording longer distances, I wonder what kind of quality footage, if any, it manages to record.
I think it’s always a trade off between size/weight and camera resolution (also battery consumption?).
