Yell – local search competition hotting up

Yell

Yell.com (UK) has just re-launched its interface and it’s rather excellent. Super clean, versatile and with lots of useful features on the results page. Not only that but the map interface is also great (why isn’t every online map drag n’ move like this, eh? You listening MultiMap?). Looks like Google is in for a battle in local search. [Disclosure, I’m an advisor to the Yell group]

Oh and while we’re on the subject of the big G., iGoogle? Hmm…Netvibes doesn’t have to lose much sleep.

  • You should check out the new Multimap site, based on the same API as the Yell service: http://www.multimap.com/newsite

(in the spirit of disclosure, I worked on the redesign of the Multimap site :)

Also – when I use the new Yell home page interface I’m experiencing LOADS of flicker when I mouseover the main icons. I’m not feeling the love just yet…

  • Interesting Stephen :-) I’ll take a look at Multimap, sounds good. The Yell flicker as far as I can see relates to the switch over from each tab (i.e. Shopping, Maps etc). Nice to hear that all the maps are getting ‘google-ized’ though, it was really bugging me. :-)

Yell’s mapping is provided by Multimap you muppet.

  • D’oh, muppet I am indeed then. Apologies to all MultiMap personnel who were offended. But in my defence – Multimap used to suck a lot. A lot. :-)

  • The people behind the mapping ARE MultiMap. You should be careful about slinging accusatory mud before checking your facts…

  • Quiche, you want to try reading my comments above before spouting off? Might save a bit of time.
