One of the best things that smartphones have brought to the table is the ability to access useful information in an instant. Airfares, traffic conditions, that sort of stuff. Your MD’s Symptom Checker goes one step further and lets you use your phone to find out what’s wrong with you healthwise, and it’s beautifully easy to use.
To use the app you can either type or say what symptom’s you’re experiencing, like sore throat, itchiness etc. You can do the check for yourself or someone else, and the app asks for basic information like age, sex and suchlike so it can deliver more accurate suggestions. You will need to have an active Internet connection of some sort, so it’s not going to be much help way out in remote areas unfortunately.
The information that’s supplied at the end of the diagnosis clinically approved by the UK’s NHS Choices service, so it’s not just random tips culled from the Internet, and you can password protect the information and also store different profiles for different family members. It’s obviously not meant to substitute for a real live doctor, but for quick advice or an emergency in the home or while out and about, it’s a great tool. Available for Android and iPhone.
