Too good to forget!

Everyone knows there’s a bunch of cool stuff on YouTube nowadays, including movies, documentaries and the rest. The only problem is it’s kind of hard to find. Yes you can do a search, but then you’re typically wading through lots of junk to get to the gold, and even category searches don’t really improve things much. But now there’s another very cool option.
Apps like Vine and Video on Instagram have proved that people really seem to enjoy taking quick snippets of video with their phones and posting them online. The really strange thing is we, the unwashed public, seem to enjoy watching them as well, which really does blow the mind a little.
We first covered Voddler way back in 2010, when it was just another movie streaming site, with a pretty average selection of titles, and a very cool tech backend called VoddlerNet which delivered stunning playback quality down the line to your computer or media player. We liked it even then, although we had reservations about the overall user experience. Well, my how they’ve grown…!
What can be better on a rainy Sunday than kicking back on the couch, controller in hand to spend a few hours with your favorite video game. We’re PC gamers by choice, but we realize that there are those unfortunate souls who prefer consoles, and we’re OK with that. What we’re not OK with is the problem of old games littering up the room, when they could be put to better use as recycled product to help us get newer…
We’ve featured the Humble crew before several times, mostly because they keep offering amazing ‘pay what you can afford’ deals on games and ebooks, with a proportion of the proceeds going to charity, but now they’ve gone one step further and introduced what could be the bestest online retail store ever.
Yeah times are weird all right. It’s not enough that we’re using random strangers as our taxi drivers with services like Uber, or hoteliers…thanks AirBnB, or even as our bankers, but now we’re apparently going to be able to send parcels around the world using people we don’t know too.
There’s a growing number of sites devoted to delivering movies to us, which is good news for those of us who enjoy a bit of down time now and then. The movies on offer are typically not blockbuster affairs (but is that surprising, considering how few there are nowadays?) but come from the perpetual B and C movie machine which never stops churning.
There’s a movement happening people, a protest against the erosion of human values and decency. It’s not about crime, politics or even gender, it’s about connecting or the lack thereof. We’re absolutely in agreement with the sentiment and we promote the policy here to try and encourage everyone to join in. After all, it’s only polite.
Our need for music seems to be insatiable, and no matter how many sources and resources we use, we still need more it seems. By now most people will know about the major sources on the Web, services like Spotify, Pandora and of course the amazing YouTube, but we’ve also reported on other smaller services like tuberadio.fm. Now there’s a new name to add to the list, and it’s rather cool.
Writing a book is easy, ask anyone. All you’ve got to do is sit down, grab your tool of choice and the words will flow quickly and easily. Not. Sure, the late Barbara Cartland may have managed to produce an astonishing 23 novels in 1983 (for which she holds the Guinness World Record for most novels in a year) but for ordinary joes trying to get a book out of the head and onto paper can be a Herculean task.
In a world which is awash with digital photographs, what is it that makes one better than the other? Time, circumstance, context or just ‘soul’? Who knows. But one thing we’re certain of is there’ll always be a need for images of one sort or another, because we’re hooked on them.

We all love YouTube, silly little girl that it is. But I don’t know about you, there are times when I wish it would be a little more obedient and let me set things up just the way I like. It’s boring having to reset image quality, size and layout each time I access a video on there. And I would also love it if it buffered properly like it used to.
