The Burning of the Amazon is a Problem – but not for oxygen

The Amazon produces a lot of oxygen which is no surprise, it’s a lot of plants! But that isn’t the reason why we should care that it’s being burnt down. Most of our oxygen comes from water and is already in the atmosphere so the forest’s destruction isn’t going to impact that but it’s STILL a problem.

Remember Climate Change – even as you get used to the heat, remember the real issue

We’re all getting really used to the heat waves. Which, on one hand, we should so that we can better deal with them but on the other, it’s making us way less aware of why they are happening. As we become acclimated to the heat, it’s important that we remember why it’s happening. Climate change, and lets all keep in mind that’s bad.

Amazon Fires – the man made blaze is bad news for emissions

If you haven’t heard by now, the Amazon is on fire. This isn’t a wildfire, like the types you see in Spain or California during dry seasons, these fires are man made and the last step in deforestation of the area. Although the rain forest can have dry spells, they are nothing like the devastation that these man made fires are causing.

The Dust Bowl Of Tomorrow – if we don’t want to see it, we need to care for our land better

How we manage our dirt is going to be so important in the coming years. As temperatures get higher and the air gets drier, we want to make sure that we aren’t setting ourselves up for another Dust Bowl event. This isn’t a problem for many parts of the world but if you live in one where great plains can suddenly dry out and lead to clouds of dirt, you may want to be wary.

Regenerative Agriculture – sustainable farming protects the soil

Dirt is very important to the future. It holds carbon and grows plants. We, humans, need both of those things to live. Climate change is going to make growing food harder for many people and order to combat that, we need to have the healthiest soil we can. Regenerative Agriculture is a sustainable farming option.

The Future Needs Better Batteries – storing renewable energy is the next hurdle

Using power efficiently isn’t all about just using renewable sources, we also need better ways to store that power, on a large scale. A future that relies on renewable energy is a future that calls for better power storage to utilize it and right now, we’re mostly relying on decades old technology.

Vermicomposting Toilet – conveyor belts and worms for a better outdoor bathroom experience

Humans make a lot of waste. Some of it is natural. I’m talking about using the bathroom which is a gross topic but an important one because when we’re out in nature, we need to go somewhere and just digging a hole in the ground isn’t always a good solution. The Vermicomposting Toilet is the future of outdoor lavatories.

Invasive Paper Project – a very cool take on weeding

Do you weed? If you have any sort of green space, chances are you weed and get rid of the less than lovely plants so that the ones you want can grow. Next time you’ve got a good crop, maybe think about turning them into paper so that they can be at least a little bit useful. The Invasive Paper Project was an interesting look at dealing with invasive plants in our life.
