Kindle 2? Pah! Real men build their own electronic book reader with a DIY e-Ink AM200 Electronic Book Reader Kit. Sure it’s a bit rough around the edges, and at around $3000 for a 6” screen model, a tad pricey, but hey, geek cred costs, right?
The above photo shows a simple prototype e-reader application that was assembled from the components included in the prototype kit, packaged in a two-piece acrylic case. This prototype weighs under 150 grams (about the same as a thin magazine), is only 7.2 mm thick, and is powered by the internal Li-ion battery pack that is included in the kit. Users can load content onto the device through the MMC card slot.
