Similarity is a clever freeware program that locates identical music files on your computer so you can delete the extras and just have one version. What’s v. cool is the fact that the software ‘listens’ to the sound content, rather than just relying on filename, size etc.

You can adjust the sensitivity as you need, and it copes with just about all music files from MP3, OGG, WMA and beyond. If you’re like me, and have music (and photos for that matter) scattered about on multiple disks like confetti, then this will definitely be a keeper.

Similarity is a useful program that helps you to find and remove similar, duplicate musical files (MP3, WMA, OGG, ASF, WAV, FLAC, APE, WV) with the same or similar sound content, music tags (ID3,WMF,Vorbis). This is the best program where similarity of a sound part is checked, not just music tags or file content (byte to byte comparision). In addition the program analyzes the artist, title, album information from the music tags contained in the audio files and compare these with the appropriate entries in other files.

Ya know, i wish i could trust something like this. Better yet, i wish i could trust me to know how to use it. When it comes time to actually hit the delete button, i always panic. I just don't get what all the duplications mean. Are they necessary for the "too many" media players i have; are the files actually just duplications. I was tempted to load this app, as i always am, and then was filled with doubt. I keep remembering updating my library thru WMP and suddenly had three versions of everything. To this day i've never figured out how to tell what's necessary and what's duplication. The whole subject makes me nuts.

To remove duplicate music files like MP3, Wma , Itunes etc, i use Duplicate Finder from Ashisoft, now would like to know is work on these and other music files of different formats, for this is i will be very thankful,
