I was looking for some screencasting software the other day, having been hugely disappointed with the Jing product. Tell me, what’s the good of offering a Pro version for $14..95 which only records up to 5 minutes worth of video? Are they nuts?
Anyway stumbled across our old favourite CamStudio which still offers a nice free open source version, and thought we’d take another look. Guess what, it’s great! They’ve really upped the quality of the footage with their own codec, and although the interface is spartan it offers everything you’re going to need to make cool screencasts of your desktop. What’s more it has an integrated Flash video maker, so you can produce web friendly screencasts at the touch of a button. Superb product all round.
CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs)
