Bit.ly Creator is a neat Firefox plugin that lets you quickly turn a long page URL into a short one, just by clicking on an icon on your Firefox menu bar. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to link the shortened URL to your bit.ly account dashboard so you can’t track link use once created, which sort of defeats the purpose of the whole exercise. Nevertheless it’s a pretty cool add-on.
This add-on gives you easy access to the http://bit.ly/ URL shortening service via a toolbar button, the tools menu or the main context menu. The currently opened URL, that of a selected link or a selected URL in any text field can be shortened. The resulting URL will be automatically stored in the clipboard (can be disabled).
