Hasselblad H4D-60 – 60 megapixels ought to do

Image

The Hasselblad H4D-60 is the latest incarnation of the iconic Hasselblad medium-format camera, this time with 60 Megapixels and a stratospheric price tag. It’s not all about the resolution though, the big H have also upgraded the software and improved the autofocus but it’s still a studio camera, a US$43,000 studio camera. Or if you’re on a budget, there’s the H4D-50 with 10 megapixels less for only US$29,000. Choices are nice, and you’ve got until January 2010 to save for one.

Featuring a 60 Mpixel MF sensor and the revolutionary new True Focus technology, the H4D-60 camera system will change the way you think about high-end photography. The H4D series is built upon the successful H3D platform and comes bundled with our new Phocus 2.0 imaging software.

  • I just hope they don't take one to Rwanda to take pictures. You could feed most of the starving children there for that price.

  • I'm sure I read an article somehwhere a few years back which asserted that more than about 10 PPx was pure hype and worthless in practical terms…

    • It depends on what you're photographing Mike.
This is a studio and possibly landscape camera, it's for making large prints with scads of detail for big prints like on the sides of buses, shop window displays and fine art photography etc.

Here's a comparison: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3/h3d-1.htm and this is just the difference between 12 and 22 megapixels.

  • PPX ?? doh.
