I used to have great fun informing people that the little shiny square next to the camera on their camera phone was a mirror to help them frame self portraits. Well Samsung have taken that idea and made it complicated by releasing the Samsung DualView digital camera with two LCDs, one on the back and one on the front for just that purpose. It has a 12.2 Megapixel sensor, touch-sensitive 3.5″ main LCD, 1.5″ secondary LCD, gesture-based UI and HD movie recording.
The secondary LCD can be used to display the current image being taken, the camera settings or even a little animation to grab children’s attention for a photo. It may also prevent the “waiter photo” where you hand your camera to someone to take your photo and they zoom way out to wide angle so you’re nary a speck in the distance. At least you’ll be able to see what the photo looks like before they take it.
Unhelpfully, the DualView has different model numbers in different countries so you’ll have to check your local version for pricing, but it seems to be around US$299.
Picture yourself in the Fun! Samsung proudly introduces a new milestone in digital camera technology. The Samsung DualView Camera with a 1.5″ front LCD screen – a revolutionary feature in the industry- lets you take part in capturing the moment like never before
