The beauty of modern technology is that it gives us the ability to accomplish tasks with as little effort as possible. Granted, some people might view this as lazy, but I like to think that saving time and effort gives us the chance to get more done. I mean, just think of how much time you waste each day adjusting the blinds in your office as the direction of the sun changes. Wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t have to get up and walk across the room just to do it? With a bit of tinkering, you can.
Bremster over at CTHackerspace had the exact same dilemma, and decided to fix it himself. Rather than buying an expensive set of blinds that automatically adjust, he used some RC car servos and a switch to get the job done. He even wired it up so that the power is drawn from a USB port on his computer. If you think this is something your office could benefit from, he made a detailed set of instructions so you can make this yourself.
