Electric Skates lets you clip on, switch on and shoot out

Electricskates

You’ve got to admit one thing, transportation is really going through some big changes right now. The high price of gas, the crowded streets and the proliferation of new technologies is driving a really innovative period in our ability to move from place to place effortlessly. Some of the most interesting stuff we find comes from personal devices like Honda’s UNI-CUB, but there are other examples which are just as interesting.

Take these Electric Skates for instance. They may look a little clunky, but when you consider that each skate contains a tiny 80–watt electric motor and a Lithium Ion rechargeable battery which can propel the wearer at up to 8 mph for 6 miles, you’re really talking cool technology. The control system comprises a handheld wireless remote control and there’s a handy emergency brake on the rear of the units which backs up the handheld throttle.

Just drop your feet into the clasps and off you go, for up to 40 minutes use per charge. It will take you 5 hours to recharge the units, and we’re wondering whether you could double the range by only having one skate operative at a time? One for the commute to work, and one for the return. Hop-a-Long motion in action, eat your heart out Mr Segway. Priced at $699.95.
