Everybody loves music, right? You’ve probably got at least one musician in your collection of friends and family, y’know the one with the slightly greasy hair, vacant expression and a damaged social engagement meter. All we know is that without them the world would be a distinctly poorer place all round, and it’s nice to see that the WordPress developers agree.
Matt and the team have come up with WordPress Music, a free wordpress.com site designed specifically to cater for musicians. The site can be created in seconds, and once it’s up and running you can install neat stuff like a music player, a tour date calendar (yeah, get out of your bedroom dufus), video and social networking widgets and more.

There’s nothing revolutionary here, but it’s the fact that it’s all easy to install that makes it appealing. Anyone who’s ever struggled with getting their album tracks and videos up on a site will know what we mean. There are also some nice premium features you can purchase, including your own band name domain (assuming it’s available), and custom design features to tailor the default themes completely to your liking.
The major thing to remember though, is this is WordPress. It’s not the number one blog platform for nothing. It’s reliable, robust, secure and for struggling artists a perfect way to get something free up and running without having to rely on Ron the Geek from down the road. Or your mum’s credit card.
