Googo Camera – the first peer to peer WiFi camera for iPhone and Android smartphones

We’re not quite sure exactly what market this new Googo Camera is aimed at, but it packs some interestingly innovative technology. The product is the first peer to peer WiFi camera which can work directly with a smartphone without the need for a router or computer in between. What this means is you can plunk the battery driven camera down on any surface, and obtain around 4 hours worth of operation from the internal 800mAh rechargeable battery.

So why would you want one? Well we can see it being used for ad hoc surveillance of remote parts of a building for one. The range is 100 meters in open areas and 30 meters in crowded, so it’s probably only useful for small factory floors or open plan office type locations.

Apart from that, there’s the obvious baby monitor market, or pet monitoring, or maybe just wildlife spotting when you’re on vacation. The fact that it doesn’t need to be wired into anything, means you get a lot of flexibility in terms of where you can place it. Anyhoo, the thing comes with its own app, and costs $50.00.
