Firestreamer-DV. $46.00. Needs an in/out Firewire connection which of course we in Europe are rather short of on our camcorders. Sheesh!
The Firestreamer software makes your DV recorder appear as a regular tape drive to other applications running on your computer, so that you can use the powerful Windows Backup Utility (NTBackup) to reliably back up and restore your files and folders to and from videotape. You can store up to 15 Gigabytes of data to a Mini-DV cassette, or more with the built-in compression enabled. The backup and restore are fully automated, as with a normal tape drive. You only need to change tape cassettes when prompted.
Amazing! I have a JVC DX-95 so this might be much better than backing up onto 4 dvd`s. Will have to give it a try.
If you don`t have a dv-in enabled cam you could always see if there`s a widget available to enable dv-in.
Storm, as far as I know the widget makers have been forced to stop manufacture because of big brand pressure. Or am I wrong?
wow, going back to weak magnetic strips. Hmm… I thought we were looking for newer products. Drop that tape or hover a magnet next to it, bye, bye data!
Hmm..as far as I remember there are certain advantages over using tape in that it is actually more robust than a disk if you drop it.
