So if this was April we’d be checking the calendar, but it ain’t and this is what it is. A product which can only have come from the fevered imagination of someone aching to return to their misspent youth, while ensuring they met their current responsibilities in a totally ‘real’ way. Man.
The Quinny Longboardstroller is a baby stroller which has been tacked on to a fairly conventional longboard (aka a skateboard to you and me). The result is a thoroughly modern form of transport which combines that freewheeling vibe, with the sort of hipster ethic which is such a joy to behold down at Sunday farmer’s markets.
We guess it doesn’t help that the company uses images which immediately invoke this kind of slapdash, freedom loving rebel attitude (is that really a Robert Downey Jr lookalike grinning like a superhero?), so we’re going to go out on a limb here and suggest that any mother faced with the possibility of her toddler being strapped into one of these things is going to have a minor cardiac arrest. Followed by a slam of the door.
We are, of course, being snidey for the sake of it, and because it’s fun, since we’re sure the thing is perfectly safe in every way. C’mon it’s even got brakes, Susan, for goodness sake. Oh and the makers are careful to warn that they are not responsible for anything that happens if you decide to try out some cool tricks with baby on board. Those skate park revels are definitely out, dude.
Anyway for the truly adventurous – and their mothers – this is the future of transportation. It’s not recommended for the rain, but it is built and designed and only shipped in Europe. Go figure! The makers are accepting pre-orders at €599 a pop. Ollie on dude.
