Public Domain Day – see what’s up for grabs

For the first time this century something new has entered the public domain. Finally works form 1923 have become public for the good of the culture! If you have a hankering to check out some classics and maybe remix them in your own work, see what’s out there for use on this website.

Ok, to be fair, there have been works that have slipped into the public domain since 1998 when the process was held for another twenty years, usually due to some weird loophole in copyright law or simply because the creators didn’t care. This year marks the first time that there’s a mass aging into the public domain and that’s something to celebrate.

Books like Tarzan, movies like the Ten Commandments and tons of music are up for use. Check out the top hits on the link but that’s not all the year had to offer, there’s literally thousands of works that are going to be available and next year, we get to do it again.
