Katazukue – the table that tidies up for you

Katazukue2

The Katazukue Table contains two conveyer belts which ‘periodically’ dump anything sitting on the table top to the floor. Now this may be an artist’s idea of tidying up, but where we come from the floor is not considered to be a great storage space. Although looking around me now….Anyhoo don’t expect to see this concept art piece on the production line anytime soon, eh? Funny video.

So Katazukue on one level supports our modern lifestyle by clearing itself for different activities during the day, whilst also controlling our activity – it forces us to change what we are doing according to it’s whim. On another level the piece is intended as a metaphor for technology generally – technology both gives us something as well as taking something away from us.
