Cellecast – radio shows delivered to your cell phone for free

Cellecast. They’re calling it cell phone radio on demand. Just dial a number – 1 360 335 6000 – from anywhere and you’ll be able to listen to your own personal playlist of radio stations on your phone. You can pause, rewind and fast forward and even interact via text message with some shows if they have the TalkBack feature enabled. There’s not a lot of content available at the moment on the site, but since it’s advertising sponsored the…

Defraggler – free defrag program with the personal touch

Defraggler is a free defragmentation tool for optimising the performance of your hard disk. It does this by re-arranging file fragments so they’re all contiguous where possible, which translates into faster seek and save times. The commercial King of the Hill is Diskeeper, but it costs $29.95, which makes this puppy a bit of a bargain. Defraggler is slower than Diskeeper, but that’s probably because it analyses each file fragment to give you the option to optimise parts of your disk rather than the whole thing….

Clutter Me – reinventing web page creation the Netvibes way…

ClutterMe. Well it had to happen. Take a tiny dash of the Netvibes super simple page generation tech, throw in some Geocities home page sauce, shake it all up in a new Web 2.0 kind of way and you’ve got a homepage creator which is pretty darn interesting. You can embed photos, video, text, whatever you want. Drag it around, change it. It’s all private unless you want it otherwise and comes with personalised login URL etc etc. I have…

BT FON – hold the phone, a major telco goes free global community WiFi?

Whoa, this is astonishing news. British Telecom, the behemoth dinosaur telco of the UK, has just announced a mega deal with FON, the free community WiFi service. The upshot of the whole shebang is that BT’s 3 million broadband customers will be encouraged – say that again? – to share WiFi and their home broadband connection between themselves wherever they are. Not only that, but BT has invested in FON. They’re calling it the world’s largest WiFi community. Unbe-chuffin’-lievable. Hold…

The good folk at Carnegie Mellon University, NASA, and Charmed Labs have announced the public beta of the new Gigapan Robotic Camera Mount. The idea is that you slot your digital camera into the mount, press a few buttons to set the dimensions of your panorama and the robot turns and presses the shutter release all in one fluid motion to deliver a highly detailed set of shots which can be combined together into a gigapixel panorama with special software. The…

Ad Notifier – free Craigslist advert monitor

Ad Notifier is a cool little freeware package which monitors Craigslist for adverts which meet your search criteria. Looking for a bargain, flat share or just browsing the personals? Well take the drudge out of the task by letting your PC take the strain while you sit back and pick your toenails. Or something. It’s small, easy to use and can monitor an endless list of classifieds. I’ve started using it to look for all those slightly dodgy unlocked iPhone bargains! [Update:…

Mango – learn a language online for free

Mango is a new beta service offering online language lessons. The interface is nice and clean, the audio is crisp and there are some 11 languages available (each with 100 lessons) which is not bad at all. Sign up and use is free at the moment during the beta phase, so we can’t comment on pricing, but the service looks to be worth a try before your next vacation comes around.  I am proud to present Mango. The first Free…

Zero Electric Motorbike – a throttle, a battery pack and a silent swoosh

Zero Electric Motorbike. Wonders will never cease, an electric motorbike that looks half decent, doesn’t cost the earth, gives 300 miles per gallon equivalent and doesn’t cost a huge amount to maintain. Whatever next? I love the dirt track race video – with silent bikes. $6,900.00.  Powered by Zero’s patent-pending ZPower lithium ion power packs, Zero electric motorcycles can go about 40 miles between charges. Power packs can be changed on the fly. Full recharging takes about two hours, and can…

Pure Evoke 1-xt Digital Radio Stack – rock and roll radio play

The Pure Evoke-1xt Digital Radio is an attempt to fuse together rock legend stack maker Marshall and…well…a digital radio. Look people, not even 55 channels of slightly dodgy digital transmissions, a fancy front panel and a scrolling LED display will transform a pig into a princess. And Marshall? We’re ashamed of you, as is your mother. £99.95.  Wrapped in black vinyl, just like a Marshall amp, with solid wood construction, brass-effect control panel and a black metallic speaker grille, the…

Hand Casting Kit – turn your body parts into high art…

The Hand Casting Kit is ever so slightly out there, in a sort of Andy Warhol meets Fisher Price kinda way. Mix up the goo, stick your hand in it to create a mould and seven minutes later throw in some Plaster of Paris for the final result. Paint it, mount it, give it to your boss or just gaze at it in awe. We’re dumbstruck. No really. A$69.95.  Create your very own Statue of David…or Bill or Cheryl or…

Testcard TV – watch your favourite shows and movies for free online

Testcard TV. OK, so again we’re not quite sure how these guys are getting away with it, but the site features a ton of top quality shows and movies streamed for free on demand. The video quality is good and bad, as is the streaming quality. We got a lot of stuttering on popular stuff like Heroes which made it unwatchable, but no problems with less well known programming. Nope, don’t ask about licensing, or we might have to shoot you….
