Analog Heart Rate Watch – combi health style retro tick

This Analog Heart Rate Monitoring Watch measures the pulse at your wrist and converts that into a cutesy little display which is guaranteed to terrify you to bits at various times. Don’t, whatever you do, look at it while you bend down to tie your shoes, OK? $99.95.  The analog time is displayed with three-hand movement, visible through a mineral glass face set in a stainless steel case. The watch determines your heart rate using pulses from your wrist, eliminating the need to wear an uncomfortable…

Eliica lives – the ultimate electric beast car

Way back in 2003, before some of you were even born, we featured the mind-boggling conceptual electric car called Eliica, brainchild of a mammoth $4m research project from Keio University in Japan. We’re now happy to report that the Eliica lives. We’re talking 8 wheel electric drive, 160 km/h top speed and absolutely bristling with hi-tech goodies. Just perfect for a credit crunch environment. Video (in Japanese). No word on production dates (hah!) though. Tags: ecological, electric+car, eliica

The Dark Side of Dubai – disturbing…

The Dark Side of Dubai is a disturbing Independent newspaper report on the nasty hidden world behind the glitz of this Middle Eastern ‘success story’. See also.  Dubai was meant to be a Middle-Eastern Shangri-La, a glittering monument to Arab enterprise and western capitalism. But as hard times arrive in the city state that rose from the desert sands, an uglier story is emerging. Tags: dark+side+of+dubai, middle+east, human+rights

Wall Street Financial Expert – too obvious…

The Wall Street Financial Expert kit. Like shooting ducks in a barrel, ain’t it? $5.95.  A quick peek into the offices of some top financial consulting firms revealed that many of their employees were actually chimpanzees. No wonder the market crashed! Chimp, chair, desk and computer in each package. Tags: gadget, novelty, wall+street+financial+expert

Anti Theft Bike and Car Device – stick some instant un-lovely on your precious stuff

Dominic Wilcox’s Anti-Theft Bike/Car Device is a genius idea. Clear stickers which contain rust and scratch marks, which you place on your property to make it look too old to be worth stealing. Not sure how it would work on a 2009 Porsche, but on a bicycle or aging car, pretty good? Of course there’s people who’ll steal the rust off your tractor for a sweetie, so it won’t always work. Lovely idea though, and worth a punt at £3.99…

Portable Ubuntu for Windows – run Linux in a Window on Windows

Portable Ubuntu for Windows is a free version of Ubuntu Linux that runs in a Window on your Windows machine. That’s pretty darn cool. If you’ve ever wanted to try Linux but were afraid of the hassles, now’s your chance to dip your toe in without major upheaval. Rather neat idea (even if I can’t get it to work on my pile of rubbish Vista installation for some reason). [Via]  Portable Ubuntu for Windows is a Ubuntu system running as…

The One Dollar Book – earn money by referring ebooks

Everyone lends other people books, it’s what makes them so social. I have purchased three copies of Cryptonomicon yet I only own one copy, I just keep giving them away. The 1 Dollar Book Company thinks this might be a neat idea and they have created a kind of Tupperware party plan around referring ebooks. The idea is you first buy an ebook for $1. You then refer the book to friends, as many as you like obviously, and for…
