Nottable – the universal portable laptop stand

Apparently there’s a bunch of us out there who need to use their laptops in unconventional positions, which was enough to spur Brazilian inventor Nelson Motta to design and construct an innovative laptop stand called the Nottable. It’s made out of aluminium, is adjustable in all sorts of fascinating ways and from the sales video looks to be a high quality product. The neat thing is it looks small enough to collapse into a briefcase sized pack for transportation to strange…

TrickleSaver – save power by forcing your gear to collaborate

The TrickleSaver device hooks up between your television and A/V equipment and when you switch off your TV will automatically turn off all your other kit.  Sounds great, just what we need to save the planet, eh? One slight problem, what happens with stuff like a satellite or cable set top box which needs to phone home at night to download EPG data or update firmware? Ah well, let’s not quibble, after all it does let you keep all your old power sockets, which is v useful….

iDump – back up your iPod music to your PC hard disk real quick and easy

The unfortunately named iDump is a freeware program which lets you quickly copy music tracks from your iPod to your Windows computer hard drive. There’s a bunch of people out there who positively dislike iTunes – this hand goes up too – because of its ghastly and unintuitive interface, so it’s good to see people still trying to deliver value in alternative products.  This program will allow you transfer your songs off your iPod to a PC, iDump does come wrapped in…

Minimum Noise – awesome crowdsourced music marketplace offers cash opportunities for musicians

Minimum Noise is a superb new online marketplace which connects musicians with people looking for custom created music. It’s based on a conventional marketplace meme such as you’ll find on all those freelance coder and designer sites like Rent-a-Coder, in that the buyer posts a need for a piece of music, and the musicians bid to win the contract. The musos can also upload clips to show the type of music they would/can supply and there’s a nice comments area where everything can…

Bluetooth for sports fans – aka Facebook at the football

The University of Glasgow have come up with a Bluetooth application that will allow spectators to communicate with one another in stadiums. Making use of ad hoc Bluetooth networks between devices, spectators will be able to message, transmit pictures and even videos without any external infrastructure and all free of charge. Trials will conclude next March by when they are hoping the idea will be picked up by industry. Imagine watching a football match, seeing a foul and being able…

ReLight Rechargeable Book Light

I almost didn’t post this ReLight Rechargeable Booklight, I mean it’s a booklight, it’s been done, but for a fairly simple concept I think they’ve done it quite well. To start with, it’s rechargeable and you can replace the batteries. Give it a 3 hour charge in the stand and you’ll get 36 hours of light. It has a brightness control (light and superbright) and the 4 focused LEDs will spray enough light to illuminate both the verso and recto…

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – not kid’s stuff any more

I was all set for the merchandising tie-in extravaganza that would accompany the next Harry Potter movie which opens worldwide today. And what have we heard? <crickets> With Harry and the Gang getting older and the story getting darker there’s almost nothing for kids, toy-and-gadget-wise except prop replicas and clothing. The Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince video game is a bit of a washout and even Lego has abandoned this year’s movie. I suppose drinking potions, fighting zombies,…

The Why Cry Baby Analyzer is one of those products which makes you go huh, if only because our species has been successfully rearing offspring for a few years now without having to use gizmos to translate baby noises. Video Thang – freeware video editor will gaudy your eyeballs as well as your footage

Video Thang is a free video editor which combines a totally cosmic colorfest Flash interface with some pretty useful features. The interface is clearly aimed at the yoof market, because no-one else could survive the mix of colours, typefaces and styles, but for MySpace babies, no worries. You can import video from your webcam, websites and your mobile phone or camcorder (via the computer of course) and once imported you can add audio, still photos and titles and transitions to…

Seabreacher – the bionic dolphin gets a super cool update…

Way back in 2004 we reported on something called the Bionic Dolphin, and lookee here, it’s been upgraded, improved, shined up and glossified. The all new Seabreacher is a fast (think 40mph+) watercraft which skims and submerges on demand just like a real dolphin. The ultra cool bit is they’re now for sale, although you’ll have to mortgage the kids in order to afford the $48,000 starting price. But dude, they feature a jet drive, can dive to 6 feet…
