Bookmooch.

BookMooch. Really really nice book swap system with a great design. It’s elegant, simple to get going and seems to be taking off a lot. One complaint? Will some Brits please start using the service – please pass this on to all your friends – so that we can get some traffic going this side of the pond? Thank you very much, this has been a public service announcement.  BookMooch lets you give away books you no longer need in…

Googdesk.

Googdesk. Yes it’s heresy, but for some strange reason I like this. Google Smarter, they’re calling it. Maybe Google would be a bit better with some more options on the home page? Maybe…..? Anyway check it out for yourself and make up your own mind.

Mail Big Files.

Mail Big File.com. I like this simple file transfer service a lot. If you’ve ever had the hassle of trying to get a large-ish file across to someone you’ll know the anguish of trying to use email etc. With this free service you simply upload the file (joy, there’s a progress bar) and enter in the recipient email address. No registration needed. The best thing is that it copes with files up to 512 MB in size, which is way handy….

Alert Map.

Alert Map. Do not, repeat, do not, look at this real time map of global emergencies if you are at all of a nervous disposition. Tornados in Germany for goodness sake? Volcanos, air crashes, heatwaves, earthquakes. It’s all frighteningly here. Sheesh!

VoIP speed test.

MyVoIPSpeed Test. The folk at Visualware have introduced another free online test, this time to let you know whether your broadband line is good enough for VoIP Internet calls. Sounds a bit arcane to us, but possibly worth a check if only to see why the voice on the other end sounds like it’s coming from Alpha Centauri.  MyVoIPSpeed simulates VoIP traffic over your Internet connection and measures the quality for VoIP conversations. The speed test measures your current download/upload…

Skype conferencing.

High Speed Skype Conferencing. High speed means no registration, just click and go. Unlimited conferencing means up to 500 people, and free means completely free of charge. Fascinating stuff, I’d love to know whether it works as advertised with a fair few people jabbering away.  Highspeedconferencing.com is a service for the Skype community to have multi-party (that is, more than five people on at a time) conference calls using Skype and regular phones. If you use Skype, it is completely…
