AromaFork – hack your tastebuds with this weird and wonderful tool

So here’s a fascinating fact. Apparently we humans lose half of our taste receptors by the time we reach 20, and from then on it’s all downhill. Yikes. As if that wasn’t enough, our tastebuds can only recognize 5 primary tastes – sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and unami – and if you’re a non-taster, you’re probably not even going to be able to do that. So it’s fascinating to report on a new product which aims to help things along…

Skype Translate – new technology from Microsoft looks like the translation breakthrough we’ve been waiting for

We reckon that deep down everyone would like to be a fluent linguist in multiple languages. It’s just so cool to be able to walk into a room and start chatting away in a different language to a friend or family member. As someone who can barely speak one language, that makes me severely envious.

Jak Bank – interest free ethical borrowing becomes a reality in Sweden

Ever wished there was a bank which was actually driven by more humanitarian goals than merely making more profit? Yes there are credit unions, cooperative and community banks, but they almost all still revolve around the idea of interest payments on loans and savings. What about a bank that did away with all that, and tried a different approach altogether?

Walking with your little one in a street full of people can be really tiring because you have to make sure that you don’t let him/her go. And even when you give a piggyback on your shoulders it’s a problem. Your child may enjoy it, but it gets very tiring very fast for the generous parent.

Imagine your luggage is just code – get ready for a future where we don’t own things, but instead make and destroy on demand

Finnish designer and creative director of 3D systems, Janne Kyttanen, has recently posted a video outlining a possible future where 3D printing is embedded in our lives in a completely new way. He asks us to imagine a world where everything we own – in this case specifically our vacation luggage – is stored as nothing but computer code. Instead of carrying our belongings with us on holiday, the idea is we print it all out at our destination on…

If you’re one of those folks who’ve been bitten by the video bug, you’ll know all about the joys and frustrations of getting your work done. Apart from having to learn all the ropes, it’s also tricky putting together professional looking productions without having the money to spend on the nice little extras. Phantom 2 Vision – amazing flying camera turns the world into an aerial adventure [Review]

When the history books come to be written about the rise and rise of the quadcopter, we suspect that one of the names which will be high on the list will be that of DJI, makers of the Phantom 2 Vision ‘flying camera’. The company has managed to single handedly carve out a new segment in the ‘prosumer’ gadget world, the personal camera drone. And they’ve done it with style.
