Eye Trainer – your own personal eye doctor on your phone [Freeware]

If you’re like us, you spend a fair amount of time looking at a computer screen every day, which funnily enough is not the optimum situation to be in. You know what they say, if God had meant us to stare at computers all day, we would have been born with Aeron chairs strapped to our rear. Ahem…anyway moving swiftly on…

Which family just has one phone nowadays? None. Most families have two or three of different types, brands, platforms, and there’s different data on all of them, which can be crucially important. It’s not hard to love websites which offer free stuff, whether it’s music, software or video. But we have a special place reserved for those intrepid folk who roll up their sleeves and brave the water to offer royalty free public domain images. There are so many competitors, and so many duff photos that it’s not an easy job. Which is why it’s really nice to find a site that does it right.

Musomap – find and share the love with your fellow musicians

They’re everywhere, lurking in the background, strutting their stuff on SuperBowl stages, eking a crust on street corners. Yes we’re talking about those most loved and abused people, musicians. Atooma – the almost perfect smartphone automator app [Freeware]

One of the most powerful things you can have in your pocket right now, apart from a wallet containing Beyonce and Jesse Heiman’s personal phone numbers (google it), is a fully armed smartphone. The computing power of these things is amazing, and yet, as with our brains, we usually end up using a fraction of their full capacity.

Kickstarter really did…ahem…start something when they made crowdfunding respectable. Not only did ordinary folk begin to understand just how useful it can be when done properly, but it has inspired a legion of other democratic funding services to set up, each covering different niches and goals.

PushBullet – instantly move stuff from your computer browser to your Android phone [Freeware]

Once you start using a smartphone in earnest, you quickly discover that the more you connect it with your computer, the more useful it becomes. I constantly find myself checking traffic on the laptop maps before leaving, or hastily scribbling down an address or a postcode for the Google Navigation when I get into the car. But what I really needed is a quick and easy way to send from the computer to my phone without any intervening hassles.
