Hell – Another xkcd comic pops into reality

Good ol’ xkcd has done it again. First it was the YouTube virus and now it’s a new version of Tetris, dubbed Hell, and it’s completely playable. Well, you can play it, I don’t know if it’s playable. Anyway, considering the comic only came out on the 7th of April, this is a pretty good effort. Now all we have to wait for is the new Katamari game and the tweaked Mario brothers. Poisson Rouge – Games people play … when they can’t read

Poisson Rouge is a treasure trove of simple, lovely, wordless online games for children. Everything about this site is remarkably easy to use, intuitive and so simple to navigate. And like all good childrens’ games, these ones teach through play – whether it’s the alphabet and reading, numbers and counting, or shape and colour matching, the learning is carefully designed to be as fun as can be. If you get stuck though, there’s a user guide written specially for the…

Treadmill Bike – Takes the gym outdoors

It’s perhaps the best of both worlds. The Treadmill Bicycle gives you the benefit of a treadmill while you’re tooling around enjoying the spring weather. Built with rugged design and all-terrain tires, this 2-wheeled wonder will take you anywhere a standard bicycle will, and give you a great cardiovascular workout with the burn of that walking treadmill you’ve got a love-hate relationship with in the gym. Use it for shopping, going to and from work, or any other tasks you…

Spicy Invaders – Galaga vs Galangal

From the someone-just-had-to-do-this-dept.: Brazil-born designer Anderson Horta seemingly enjoyed some higher education in arcade gaming. So he came up with the idea of bringing the immortal meme of space invaders to new life. On the kitchen shelf, that is. As Spicy Invaders they relentlessly will fire both salt and pepper on your dishes. Pew pew, and bon appetit, earth defenders! All we need to do now is convince Anderson to have those handy invaders put into production, so we can…

McDonalds Video Game – make like a conglomerate and profit

McDonald’s Video Game comes in an assortment of languages and provides a useful look at just how hard it is to keep stacking those profits as a multinational fast food empire. You get to take control of the agriculture, animal management, retail and HQ, and woe betide you if you let some part of the profit chain slip.   The whole thing is designed as a subtle – or maybe not so subtle – parody of the whole corporate profit thing,…

Trivial Pursuit Experiment – Play it for your generation

The classic bored board game Trivial Pursuit rampages into the 21st century by going all online and social network-y. Sign in and choose a team – over-30’s or under-30’s – then start turning those cards over and answering the questions. You never know, you might end up proving that the older younger your generation knows something after all. Though, you’re more likely to prove that more under-30’s bother with this kind of thing than over-30’s. Free, but if you want…

Ferrety Friday Links – now with 90% more picture love

Last week’s Ferret Friday Links went off a little early but we’ve calmed down and we’re all better this week, so off we go. In order to win an Academy Award, you’ll need to have an Academy Award winning movie trailer . “Friendly concern that a string of heightened and seemingly unrelated plots should suddenly arise…” iPad in the sky with diamonds. It’s not even out yet but the iPad has already been pimped. But that’s okay, it’s only tacky…
