Google Sight Seeing – See the world from your laptop

Google Sightseeing is a site dedicated to finding interesting and odd things on Google Maps and Google Earth. From before-and-after pictures of the Haiti Earthquake, to the “Door to Hell” in Turkmenistan and the giant ship graveyard in Mauritania, there’s plenty here to wile away a wet or snowy afternoon. Flexy – The eco friendly slinky

The fun, accordion-shaped Flexy reminds me of my favorite low-tech gizmo, the Slinky. But it goes one better – it’s earth-friendly! Made of recycled cardboard, the Flexy is biodegradable and comes with instructions to help you make it move in ways including a rippling rainbow, a big dipper and cool sculpture-like shapes. It claims to be able to do everything its metal counterpart can do. Though not as compact as the old stand-by, it promises not to tangle like a…

MonkeyJam – freeware lets you create cool stop-motion animation for fun and profit

MonkeyJam is a neat little freeware prog which lets you create those really fun, cool stop-motion animations you see around. You can either capture directly from any standard webcam or import images from a digital camera, although make sure you keep the resolution reasonable if you don’t want to wait around for months for the rendering. It’s pretty simple to use, and if you need more sophistication, just drop the resulting .avi into Movie Maker or some other video editing program…

DIY Aquarium Computer Cooling – Make your PC sleep with the fishes

Freak out your housemates with this DIY Aquarium Computer Cooling system. Everything, including the power supply is in the tank, all except the hard drives. The tank is filled with non-conducting mineral oil which is moved around the tank via the plain old cooling fans, albeit much slower. The standard kit works for every-day PCs, while there’s also an 1337 system for more power-hungry PCs with external coolers to help cool the oil. US$237.50 for the standard system and $511.28…

The Barbie Doll’d Up Nails Printer demonstrates conclusively just how far civilisation has come since the days of caves, chalk and discarded dinosaur bones. Riverboarding – sea-less surfing says eat gravel, chump

Riverboarding involves a flat plank of wood, a very long bungee cord, a river and some crazy hazy mind mash. Stretch bungee to full extent, step on board, and fly up river at up to 30mph. Look ma, I’m surfing with no ocean. Perfect for land locked Darwin Award hopefuls everywhere. $449.00. Humunga Stache – for dog lovers everywhere

Christmas is, amazingly, around the corner, so what better to consider that a dog toy with a twist of humor? The Humunga Stache is one of the most whimsical dog chews I’ve seen yet. This non-toxic black rubber ball has a molded giant mustache attached. When your dog bites into the ball, he suddenly looks like a character out of a Victorian novel! A word of caution. This is a fetch toy only – be sure to supervise your dog…
