Black Box DVR – the world’s smallest video recorder…?

Mike tells me that his Black Box DVR is the world’s smallest, and who am I to argue? It’s certainly not large at just 2.28 square inches and 45 grams. It comes with a ‘long life’  Lithium Ion battery and a MiniSD slot for up to 4 GB of storage. Priced at $499.95 including camera and good luck with that teeny screen.  If you can find another Portable DVR smaller than ours for less than $3,000 please let us know…

SinkPositive – try not to sink about it too carefully

Sinkpositive is one of those brilliant ideas that almost, but not quite, works. It’s not the implementation so much as the whole danged concept of washing your hands over a loo pan that will probably have the ladies reaching for their lace hankies and smelling salts. This has got to be a male invention, hasn’t it? And yes, it’s very eco-warrior indeed, which is fab. $99.00.  Benefits of the Sinkpositive Multi-Purpose Accessory Sink. Maximize water use – Using the Sinkpositive eliminates…

Thunderbolt Pro – long range storm detector

The Thunderbolt Pro promises to detect on-coming thunderstorms up to 75 miles away. Colour me amazed, since our weather service couldn’t even predict the recent onslaught of enough rain to drown a Blue Whale. Anyhoo, the device works by detecting the lightning strikes that come with storms, so you’re kind of out of luck if your particular downpour isn’t that electrical. The fun bit is the flashing red LED and audible alarms and the series of up to 50 increasingly terrified text messages (“Quick,…

Moka5 – infinite computers in your pocket

I’ve been playing with the new Moka 5 virtualisation software and it’s pretty cool. They call it ‘freedom computing’, but what they really mean is that you can install a Moka 5 ‘virtual’ computer to your iPod or USB drive, PC or whatever and then download and install any of a growing number of computer environments (called LivePCs) which are like small operating systems in a box. So for instance you can install the basic LivePC engine on a USB pen drive and then install Ubuntu or…
