When you’re shopping for a new gadget, you probably make sure you check the battery life on it. If the battery doesn’t give you at least a couple of hours of usage, you’re probably going to pass on it. The problem is, the smaller the battery, the less use it will get before dying. What if there was a way to keep the battery small but increase the life of it? That’s Solid Energy’s goal.
This is an interesting company because they’re not really making a different battery, per say, what they are doing are using different materials to make the same battery, only better. Although this seems like splitting hairs, what that means is that manufacturers don’t need to change how they’re doing things, or invest in new equipment, they just need to change their materials.
Solid Energy’s battery system creates a smaller and safer battery and since it doesn’t call for heavy upgrades to the equipment to manufacture, we may be able to see this on the market in our devices in a few years. Check out the process in the video below.
