Translated Gender – the app to help you remove outdated terms from your lexicon

Translated Gender

It’s 2016 now (yay!) and it’s pretty clear that we’ve still got a long way to go when it comes making things equal, especially in the tech world. One of the things that can help is being more cognizant of the words we use. Translated Gender is an app that helps you remove gendered speech from your vocabulary.

When you’re drafting an email or even a text, just send it through the app first to make sure that the words you’ve chosen are inclusive to all genders. This may seem like a really trivial thing but gendered titles like “policeman” give the impression only certain genders should work in certain jobs.

This is especially harmful for girls who are trying to break into spheres that are not traditionally staffed by them. This is a really simple way to help support more equality all around. The app isn’t perfect, it’s brand new so you if you find phrases are missing, feel free to let the developer know with the “did I miss a word” function. Translated Gender is free for Android devices.
