Brass Monkey is like a cloud based Nintendo Wii on your smartphone [Daily Freeware]

The Internet is changing everything, and especially in the world of entertainment. Nowadays you can watch television, listen to music, watch movies and play games using the ubiquitous network connection we call the Web. It’s astonishing how fast it’s advanced in just a few years. All of which means it’s great to see innovative new applications hit the scene, especially ones which really make a bold move into uncharted territory.

S3FM turns your Amazon S3 storage into a low cost online radio station

Just a few years ago, the cost of online storage was ridiculously high and the idea of setting up a streaming multimedia service like a radio station was out of the question unless you had deep pockets or a rich backer. My how times have changed. The launch of Amazon’s powerful and incredibly aggressively priced S3 online cloud storage service really changed the landscape, and encouraged a bunch of services and applications to launch to the world.

5 Lean Mean Firefox Browser Alternatives…Plus A Real Stunner! [Daily Freeware]

Fed up with bloated, slow, buggy web browsers like Firefox? Yeah, me too. Just about every week now, I find myself wrestling with Firefox, and although I could switch to Chrome, it’s one Google step too far (I already owe too much of my life to the massive Google machine to be healthy). So for those who are in a similar predicament, I’ve brought together a sample of some alternative web browsers, plus one standout winner which I’ve switched to…

PubMyCal lets you email your Google Calendar events with one click

If you’re a Google Calendar user, you’ll know that while it’s great for sharing calendars privately and publicly, it’s a real problem publishing them to an email audience, especially in a decent format. Not only that but it’s impossible to select particular parts and email them to people, you either have to make the whole agenda public or nothing. Well now there’s a better way.

ChefHangout offers masterclass cooking lessons in your own kitchen

In the old days, if you wanted to learn to cook you’d have to travel to a cookery class, spend time learning in a strange kitchen, with strange people and spend a fair amount of money for the privilege. It’s not that there was anything wrong with this system, it’s just that a lot of people couldn’t spare the time or expense to go on this sort of Haute Cuisine course.

Social Photos lets you migrate photos or albums between Facebook, Flickr and Google+ instantly

Aargh photos, they’re everywhere. Who would have thought at the dawn of the digital camera era that we’d be swamped by a literal deluge of images sitting on hard drives across the globe. I’ve got 16,000 photos which have accumulated over the years and my collection is probably minute compared to some of yours. Where did they all come from? Anyway, the number may be daunting but organising them is an absolute nightmare, especially if like me you’ve got some…

mothereffinganimatedgif lets you create animated gif images in a snap, and for free

We’ve been long term fans of Gickr.com for creating animated gif images, but now there’s another cute boy on the block. The new and rather bizarrely named mothereffinganimatedgif.com site now offers free instant animation creation. Just upload your photos by dragging and dropping them onto your web browser window, arrange the order you want them to display, set the delay, quality and width with some simple sliders, and press the Animate button. In seconds you’ve got yourself a great looking animation….

Meet & Seat lets you pick who you sit by on your next flight

If you want to travel long distances, there’s a good chance that you’ll consider flying. After all, in an airplane, you can travel to the other side of the country in a matter of hours, rather than days. Of course, if you’re driving, you don’t have to worry about an annoying passenger sitting next to you. Wouldn’t it be great if you could not only pick where you sit, but who you sit by? Soon you will.

Treshr – find free stuff online…for free

Treshr is a kind of mashup between Craigslist, Google Maps and Freecycle, and offers a place where you can find stuff people are giving away. Cute name apart (dig for treshr, geddit?) the app is actually quite neat, although I do wish the search was more global and not confined to a location. I suspect this is just because there’s very little material on there at the moment, which makes finding a hand embroidered gold taffeta doily a tad difficult. But stick to San…

Announcing The Red Ferret Google+ Page

Yep, we’re a sucker for a new launch, so we’ve gone and set up a Google+ Page of our very own. Took a mere 5 minutes (including uploading the image) and off we went. Nice! You can find us at https://plus.google.com/103925240319608422257 (I assume eventually we’ll get vanity Page names, eh?) and don’t forget to add us to your circle if you’re already a Google+ user. If you’re not, why not? I’ve been playing around with it for a few weeks now, and…

Google+ gets a new photo editor

Google+ still has a long way to go if it’s going to overtake Facebook as the social network of choice for the masses. Of course, it does have some features that Facebook can’t offer. Take, for instance, their new built-in photo editor. While it is certainly no Photoshop, the newly launched editor is one of the more powerful online ones around. You aren’t limited to just cropping, rotating and doing some minor brightness/contrast tweaks. The robust toolset provides you with…

Create internet tasks using ifttt

The internet is a crazy place. Between emails, status updates, tweets, news articles and more, there is a lot of information coming at you all at once.
