m-ch – Micro Compact Homes can be installed in less than 5 minutes, cost little more than a Toyota Prius

An innovative European product could point to the future of the modern home, as we move into an era of more expensive energy and space constraints due population pressures. The Japanese have faced these issues for a long time already, but now it seems as though the rest of the developed world may also have to come to terms with more efficient living spaces…and sooner rather than later.

Amprius Super Electrode Batteries promise double the run time

New electrode technology from battery technology company Amprius promises to improve battery run times by more than 40%. By replacing conventional carbon anodes with the new nanowire silicon material, the new silicon electrode batteries are able to store much more energy, resulting in a beefier and more powerful battery in the same sized package. It’s early days yet of course (isn’t it always?) but the company hopes to have products on the market within two years, probably initially powering electric…

2016 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion – 65 MPG, 3-cylinder, turbo charged hot hatch style [Review]

Ask most people for ideas on what car to buy and they will often reply: “just buy a Golf”. They do this not because it is the only car they think of when put on the spot, but because it does everything you ask of it so well.  Recently however, certain diesel Golfs have been caught out doing a little too well at emission tests, something that has now snow-balled into an industry-wide scandal causing diesel engines to become something…

Marrs M1 Electric Bicycle – the wild hog e-bike for tree fellers, not huggers

The electric bicycle market is growing apace, and part of that involves a splintering into distinct sales segments. At one end of the scale there’s the truckloads of cheap, clunky Chinese electric bicycles, sold on price and basic functionality. They’re utilitarian all right, but hardly something you’d call a work of art. At the other end you’ll find real labors of love, crafted to deliver more than just a ride. But at a price.

Those who love big cars but still want to remain eco-friendly take heart! The H3 Electric Hummer premiered last week at the 2009 SAE International World Congress in Detroit. Hybrid BMW SUV?

That BMW with the hybrid component from Electrocharger? Looks like it’s an X5. More here. For some reason I think that this technology is going places, unless some company from the ‘dark side’ buys them out. ‘To this end, theyve basically tripled the low rev urge of their X5 with electric assist. The standard torque of the 4.4 litre engine is about 470lbft. However, with electric assist, this jumps to a massive 1,350lbft (yes, you did read that correctly!)’
