Pass the popcorn

Theatre-to-Go from Margi is billed as the ‘total personal movie experience’. Not sure about that guys, but the combination iGlasses and PC Card DVD decoder board set for your laptop sure makes a neat package. Although at $650.00 it’s not super cheap. And with the more powerful laptops around nowadays perhaps not a long term product?

Bored?

Bored? Then how about a spot of Scrollbar Racing? Yes it’s sad but, for some strange reason, reassuringly addictive. [via Rogi]

From the ‘You heard it here first’ dept.

The Register is reporting that Bango.net and International Wireless are cooperating on software that will allow you to scan product barcodes whilst out shopping with your fancy new digicam smartphone, to receive additional information on the products concerned. As you may remember the Ferret stumbled across this German company offering just such software for the Nokia 7650 back in February. Expect this kind of service to become massive once technology like this is in place, although I still believe that…

Three’s company?

Time Computers of the UK has launched the Pluto Tri-View, a Pentium 4 2.53GHz Windows PC, incorporating the new Matrix Parhelia graphics board, EAX sound card and an 80GB hard disk. Expected availability will be September at around 1600.00 ($2500.00). The system will be capable of displaying onto three 15″ TFT screens simultaneously (hence the product’s name) although I’m not sure whether that price will include the necessary LCD monitors. Update: Hmmm, according to the good folk at Time the…

RAV4 Electric

The Toyota RAV4 electric vehicle. Top speed 78mph and a range of 126 miles on a full 6-8 hour charge (at around $1.40 – $4.20 per charge). But er priced at … $42,000.00. Still it’s a start, eh? Update: ..and in news just in from Metafilter, apparently GM is hard at work on a new generation of fuel cell cars codenamed AUTOnomy which would have the propulsion and control system embedded in the chassis. Personally I’ll believe it when I…

Less weird, more pretty.

Hmm, so now it looks as though crop circles have moved out of the weird and into the art world. Interesting development. [via bifurcated rivets] Update: Hmmm! It couldn’t have anything to do with this upcoming Mel Gibson movie now could it? No, of course not, film companies wouldn’t be that mercenary would they? Pah!

MP3 CD Converter

MP3 CD Converter is a nice little proggie which lets you convert and burn MP3s to audio CD format so that they can play in your hi-fi. Yes, I know that Microsoft’s latest versions of Media Player does this, but this is a neat and simple Windows alternative for those who may not want to fiddle around with the Redmond offering. Shareware, priced at $19.95.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Biometrics (defined here as the unique identification of human characteristics). Fingerprint ID, retinal scanning facial features, signatures, you name it, they’ve got it. A good bookmark. [via bifurcated rivets]

More recycled goodness…

While we’re on the subject of recycled stuff – we are, aren’t we? – how about the Remarkable site? Pencils made out of old plastic cups, and mousemats out of car tyres. OK, OK, since you insist, just one more and then we must move on. Here’s the Kaavous company. The Se-Re-Us coffee table made out of two old tennis rackets is an interesting concept, but personally I prefer the 10.00 Re-Ceptacle bowl made out of an old vinyl record….

The Fibbing Rib

Heh heh! So all these years that the doctors have been telling us to adopt a low fat diet to keep trim and stay fit may be a load of old…er…baloney? You’re kidding, right? Good grief, this is the funniest thing I have ever heard. [Warning – New York Times magazine piece (and a great one). So registration will be required]

Extreme gamer

Think you’re a gamer? Hah! You’re a feeble and pale imitation of one unless you have the ultimate accessory. Yes, you need the Xbox tan coloured leather harness, without which you are less than a whole human being. This tasteful Mulberry add-on fits snugly over the console unit and is guaranteed to make you a respected and awesomely talented gamer overnight. Maybe. It will also set you back some 200.00. Terrific eh? Please don’t rush to the door, there will…

Movies to go

Talking of MovieLens, as I was yesterday, I have now stumbled across their new MovieLens Unplugged service, which is totally brill. It’s basically MovieLens delivered to your Palm or PocketPC PDA via AvantGo! This means that instead of wandering around Blockbusters in a daze trying desperately to remember which film it was you really really wanted to see a couple of months back, you can carry around your personal wishlist of titles, as well as a selection of movies that…

Tea anyone?

What could be better for your hard working geek than to have at hand two great loves, a warm computer and a cup of steaming coffee. And so how logical to build one essential device inside the other? Result – The Caffeine Machine! The world’s first 1.0GHz Pentium 3 coffee machine. I have searched in vain, however, and cannot for the life of me locate the soggy pizza maker attachment.
