This is a nice first hand report of the oral proceedings relating to the Eldred vs Ashcroft US Supreme Court case which is all about extension of copyright and its potential abuse. Unfortunately it doesn’t read well for those who were hoping that common sense would prevail and stop big companies from continually extending their copyright lock-downs.

Spy Bot Search & Destroy sounds like AdAware on steroids. It gets rid of spyware, diallers, trojans and hijackers. Haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but hope to soon.

PeekAndPick is a teeny application that runs on any MIDP compliant PDA or smartphone and lets you read and access newsfeeds via RSS. You can also select interesting stories and automatically get the links emailed to yourself for later reading. Cool app.

Talking of IRC, the xGoogle search engine for IRC looks to be a very clever idea. Mind you, many IRC discussions move so fast that by the time they’re found they’re probably gone.

Toshiba has been proudly showing off a new machine that it is pushing as a replacement for the DVD player. The Advanced Optical Disk system uses 15 GB disks (instead of the current 4.7 GB of DVD) and uses a blue laser. Don’t hold your breath waiting for it to arrive though.
