Funky phone.

Tend not to go overboard on phones here at the Ferret any more, but this AnexTek SP230 caught our eye. Don’t know why, just did, maybe because of the neat form factor, 64MB RAM (remember when that was the total amount in your PC?), SD slot and the very respectable 5 hour battery life for a PocketPC powered doohickey. Anyway, here it is.

Am I hot or not?

The Raytek MiniTemp is a non-contact temperature reader. Point it at something and it will tell you how hot or cold it is. I’m sure this could be a really useful tool, but darned if I can work out how. $99.00. ‘Simply squeeze the trigger and an instant reading, based on infra-red emissions, appears on the backlit display. With a temperature range of 0 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, you can check the temperature of that overclocked chip you have running…

Take one decoder box, plug it into your DVD theater system, put your seating on top of a platform with motion actuators underneath, and wham….jiggly jollys at your command. It uses special codes for each movie though, so don’t expect Julie Andrews in full motion glory anytime soon, will ya?…

CD Library.

The DC300 CD Library [Babel], is a cute little box which hooks up to your computer via USB and can hold up to 150 CD/DVD discs. It’s not a jukebox because it has no drive mechanism, it’s more like a rotating Roladex for discs. The smarts, however, lies in the database software which lets you index and locate a disc at will. And you can daisy chain units together to increase the archive size. It’s quite primitive compared to a…
