MoMA Timesphere Clock – make your wall stand out some

The MoMA Timesphere Clock is a pretty cool piece of nonsense really. We’re talking minimalist, intriguing, quartz and red-dotted. What more could you ask for? $50.00.  Industrial designer Gideon Dagan’s new clock captures the essence of pure, minimalist design. A seemingly gravity-defying ball travels around the dial to mark the time, creating an eye-catching illusion. Based in California, Dagan has designed numerous consumer and commercial products, including hand-held computers and electronic instruments. Tags: moMA+timesphere+clock, gadget

World TV – superb idea brings together video content and user creativity

World TV. Register and you can set up your own television channel, comprised of whatever video clips you want from around the web’s main video sites like YouTube, Metacafe, iFilm, AOL and the like. I have to say I love the idea and the implementation. The concept of pulling in videos onto your own space (you get a simple channel URL as part of the sign up) and wrapping it all in a super friendly skin is great. Sure it’s not revolutionary,…

iYule – mucho holiday cheer comes to a screen near you

iYule. The most wonderful Cali from the most excellent Geek Brief TV show emails me to say that they’ve created a delicious little video of a roaring Yule log fire to celebrate the seasonal cheer. It’s offered in a number of formats including PC, iPod Video and iPhones and costs a mere $10.00 for the whole package. Yo! Ho! Ho! indeed, ma’am.  30-minutes of crackling fire and a beautiful original score by Geoff Smith formated for wide or standard screen portable players (iPods,…

Show Me How to Play. Want to learn an instrument? Without leaving your bedroom? Well here’s your chance. This new service combines a downloadable software player component, with a set of masterclass videos which you can watch and play along with to learn different parts of a song of your choice. There’s only a small choice of video tutorials on offer for £0.99 each at the moment, but clearly this is early days, and since each song contains tuition on each instrument,…

MultiBook – book bound combo hides a wealth of tech flex

The MultiBook is a combination device charger dock, table lamp, clock calendar, and cable tidy. Whether all these functions and the literary form factor justifies a first edition price of €152.25 is another matter. One for aesthetes only perhaps?  With its book form and luminous performance, MultiBook is a technical object with a familiar face. It’s your personal toolkit to use in any situation: to light your desk, keep it tidy and free from the usual array of cables; to use…

XR-3 Hybrid – three wheeler hybrid kit will give 225 mpg…eventually

The XR-3 Hybrid Kit Car is a three wheeled diesel-electric hybrid concept vehicle that will offer up 200+ mpg fuel economy and a maximum speed of 85 mph. Sure it’s a three wheeler with only two seats, but it’s still interesting. I’m calling it a concept because it looks like the project has slipped quite a bit from a planned launch earlier this year, and the idea is that the company will sell kit plans and eventually ready made vehicles….

5 MUST HAVE Amazon Shopping Tools – save time, save money, save tears

Here’s a little story. A few days ago I was on the lookout for a Compact Flash drive and went to a nearby camera store to get something. They had 2GB SanDisk III CF cards for £64.99 ($128.00) which I thought was a little expensive, so I went outside, flipped open my mobile phone and surfed to Amazon, where to my utter surprise I found the exact same item for £15.00 ($30.00) plus shipping. Huh? So I bought it immediately via…

The new Eccentric Cubicle book is chock full of quirky, fun things to make and enjoy while you slog out your life in that grey soul-less box of a cubicle month after month, week after…[that’s enough…Ed]. Office Accessories from a Parallel Universe. Indeed! $19.79.  The intent of this book is to infuse the new-school Maker community…

BT gets Vision – trials free ad supported movie downloads

BT Vision Free Movie Downloads. The folks at BT Vision, the content download side of British Telecom, have started a new three month trial of free movie downloads which are advertising supported. It’s only 3 movies at the moment, so nothing uber exciting, but it’s an interesting play nonetheless. You need to install a special HIRO player and it’s Windows Media Player 9 or above only, but it’s free OK?   The free downloads with BT Vision and Intel allow…

Hmm…which way prosperity? – a question

Hmm…just watched the Story of Stuff, which, while clearly a little simplistic, is really quite interesting. As is the Money As Debt movie, which again tries to explain hugely complex issues in an accessible way. And it’s made me start to think (“danger, Will Robinson”). I’ve started to wonder just how long we can keep this pace of consumption going? I’m also wondering whether we should start to think about turning this juggernaut super-tanker of an economic system around and slowly…
