World’s Smallest Precision Electric Guitar – careful with that axe, Eugene

The World’s Smallest Precision Electric Guitar. One sixth the size of a normal electric guitar, but with all the sound and fury you’d expect from a full-on rocktastic axe. Don’t think that the tiny size indicates a small price either, as this baby will set you back a rib twangin’ $799.95.  At 26 1/2″ long, it is 1/6th the size of a standard guitar, yet it has 20 frets and a 1 3/4″ wide fretboard with a 12″ fret radius, so…

OLED Tie – small flexible screens coming to a piece of clothing near you soon?

OLED Tie. I’m trying to work out why you’d want to wear a tie with an embedded OLED screen on it…um…maybe to sell advertising space? Or to broadcast your need for a mate? Anyhoo, it’s an interesting idea and who knows where it might lead. MP3 playing socks?  In the future, applications of flexible display will be expanded to our daily life ranging from a tie, a hat, a wallet and other small lifestyle products. ETRI demonstrated its flexible OLED…

RoadTour – audio travel tours delivered direct to you car satnav system

RoadTour is a clever new software program which delivers short audio-visual travel guides to your satellite navigation system detailing nearby places of interest.  It runs from your satnav memory card and contains around 600 UK heritage sites and 900 ‘best pubs’ which should be good for the drink driving business. Unfortunately it only works with Garmin satnav devices and Windows powered GPS phones at the moment, but hopefully they’ll extend the range of compatible devices sooner rather than later. £29.95….

Treefingers – a kind of web page Twitter with Digg-like voting

Treefingers. Hmm…what to say? It’s a kind of cross between Twitter and…um…well a place where you post random thoughts about anything that comes into your head or heart and readers vote them up or down. A lot of the posts currently seem to deal with lost love, is that a sign of the times, or just an indication that web geeks should get out more? Ah me, Philosophy 101 beckons. In a funny kind of way, it’s compelling, which is…

How Do I? – a perfectly formed instructional video search service

How Do I? is a fabulously simple idea done beautifully. Put in a search term for something you want to learn about (e.g. how do I make scrambled eggs?) and the site will do a Google search of all the relevant video sites for instructional material on your request. It’s lovely, and in fact I dig it so much I’ve added it to the bottom of my sidebar over on the right. I can see myself using this in future, when…

Anywhere FM – the web browser as your iPod, upload and enjoy anywhere

AnywhereFM is a new music player and upload service which lets you listen to your music anywhere you can log on to the Web. It comes with a neat file upload utility which offers batch folder or playlist uploads, and ticks the box on a bunch of trendy ‘social’ features like Friend Radio and the mandatory community that mark it out as a proper Web 2.0 type thang. Yeah it’s not revolutionary, but it’s got a bit of style going for it….

FuelPod2 – produce 50 litres of biodiesel a day at home from waste cooking oil

FuelPod2 is a ‘plug and play’ home biofuel processor. Just pour that nasty waste chip fat into one end and out the other comes lovely cheap and ecologically pleasant biodiesel. The makers say that the fuel is good enough to run any standard diesel engined car without modifications, and it won’t affect your performance either. It’s cheaper too, of course, which means that it should pay for itself very quickly, especially with the rocketing price of crude at the moment….
