ACTA returns via a backdoor trade treaty between Canada and the EU

Literally days after ACTA was decisively struck down by the European parliament, the entertainment industry is back with another attempt to ramroad this ugly legislation into force, but this time using an upcoming trade agreement between Canada and the EU as the vehicle. A nice little underhand backdoor approach. The new trade agreement, CETA (Canada EU Trade Agreement), is in the final stages of negotiation, and miraculously it now contains a bunch of ACTA terms in full. It even specifically refers to…

Useless Box Kit has only one hilarious function

When getting things to put on your desk, you likely opt for a lot of practical items. There are always standards like a stapler, pens, and organizational trays, but it’s no fun without something to make your space a little more interesting. When adding things to your desk as decoration, it doesn’t always mean it has to have a function.

T-Trail and Ambient Light Dry Bag is a luxury worth having on a camping trip

When on a camping excursion, it’s best not to have an insanely bright lantern, as you will undoubtedly end up blinding yourself. Utilizing a head lamp would be the best option, but what if you just want to hang about and read for a while? Having something strapped to your head is going to detract from your immersive reading experience, unless of course you have another source of illumination.

HoodiePillow takes lounging at home to a whole new level

When lounging, oftentimes a hoodie is the best thing to wear as it provides both warmth and that sort of “cocoon” feeling. However, when you actually lay down for a nap, it gets all jumbled under your head, and there’s not much you can do about it unless you take off your hoodie completely. This is why you need an in between option.

RumbaTime Perry Go lets you check in and cash out

We foresee a time in the not too distant future when all things will incorporate more than a single function. No longer will we just use a fork, but it will be a digital thermometer too, to warn us if our food is too hot. Our shoes will include pedometers, our hats barometers. The safety pin will have a tiny wireless ID tag, so we can know if our pants are undone. Don’t scoff, it’s inevitable good people.

A very unusual stay for the night – Shelter ByGG

If finding a place to stay that’s unique is something you seek, there are treehouse hotels, an airplane that’s been converted into a hotel, a dockside crane cum luxury hideway, even a classic car-themed hotel. Another offering to the unique, where art and sculpture intertwine, is the Shelter ByGG, a portable shelter installation by Portuguese designer Gabriela Gomes. This “hotel room” gives a nod to sustainability in that it’s made from 100 percent non-polluting and recycled materials such as cork…

Double-sided solar cells could boost efficiency up to 50 percent!

Israeli start-up company b-Solar has created a double-sided photovoltaic that they say can boast energy yields up to 50 percent. Introduced at Intersolar Europe in Germany in June, these innovative bifacial solar cells utilize a black surface field of boron instead of traditional aluminum. This creates an open rear face where the cells can collect reflected and diffused sunlight and makes the front cell panels more efficient. The new cells deliver 10-30% higher energy (KWH) per KWp when installed in…
