Biothene – biodegradable plastic

Biothene is degradable polythene which stays stable unless exposed to sunlight. Once it’s in sunlight it eventually mushes up into a harmless non-toxic material and water. If we start using enough of this stuff, will we begin to reduce our growing landfill problems? Answers on a milk carton to… Tags: biothene, degradable+plastic, polythene

Tun3r – super smooth internet radio directory

Tun3r. Hopefully now that the idiot pigopolists at SoundExchange have pulled back from destroying Internet radio, services like this cool station finder will proliferate and flourish. Make a visit anyway, you’ll enjoy it!  This is a portal for Internet radio (MP3/Ogg/etc streaming sites). These would have been called broadcasters back in the radio days. * Our system searchs the Internet looking for streams. * A short sample of their music or content is collected. * Their homepage is used to generate a…

Moka5 – infinite computers in your pocket

I’ve been playing with the new Moka 5 virtualisation software and it’s pretty cool. They call it ‘freedom computing’, but what they really mean is that you can install a Moka 5 ‘virtual’ computer to your iPod or USB drive, PC or whatever and then download and install any of a growing number of computer environments (called LivePCs) which are like small operating systems in a box. So for instance you can install the basic LivePC engine on a USB pen drive and then install Ubuntu or…

The Ale – fast, economical sportster concept

The Ale concept vehicle does 92 miles to the gallon, 0–60 in under 5 seconds and corners like a go-cart. Repeat this mantra – ‘three wheels good, four wheels bad’. The secret to the fuel economy comes from a new ‘fuel vapour system’ technology, which sounds interesting. Shame it only holds two passengers though. [Via Gizmag]  The car’s key innovation’s are the fuel vapor system and it’s light weight aerodynamic body. This fuel vapor technology (which is in the patent pending process) allows the…

Myhab – the waterproof, recyclable tent replacement

Dismayed by stories of 10,000 discarded tents at the Glastonbury rock festival, student James Dunlop has come up with the idea of the Myhab – ‘A recyclable habitat for two, made from waterproof cardboard and plastic.’ The idea is that you buy one from festival organisers for between £60 and £100, and they assemble it for you and dispose of it ecologically after you’ve gone home. No more waste. It has a secure locker inside for your valuables, can be personalised with your name…

Monkrat – the digital download shopping cart

Monkrat is a digital download shopping cart for all those artistic types wot need to sell music tracks, videos, shareware programs, ebooks and the like. It’s super quick and easy to set up (no geek needed at all) and works exactly like a standard shopping cart, except that the confirmation email provides a download link and for security purposes the file is stored on their service rather than your own servers. It’s a nice idea and done well, but the £199.00…

Nokia N800 gets Skype – Internet tablet lovers sigh with relief

The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet now supports Skype. Plus Flash 9.0 (YouTube now works), and 8 GB memory cards (16 GB in total). The new firmware also improves WiFi battery life and touchscreen sensitivity. This is really moving the product along a very nice path, and the multimedia support is now great, with excellent video functionality as well as Internet and FM radio included as standard. Unfortunately I can’t find out how to access more Internet radio stations than the default set….

3D Mailbox – the SIMS + GMail = a fun weird spam (b)eating email service

3D Mailbox is definite proof that Robert Savage is either a genius or a fruitcake. For the record Robert is the creator of Visitorville, the 3D web stats program which shows site visitors as 3D avatars arriving to a site on buses labeled Google, Yahoo! or other referrers etc. Anyhoo, he’s at it again. This time with a downloadable email program that turns your messages into 3D SIMS-like people arriving at a Miami pool resort. The messages…er…people are checked by a bouncer and…

Neokast – set up your own internet television station in minutes

The guys at Neokast have given me an early sneak peek at their video streaming beta service, and first impressions are that this could be an extremely cool piece of technology once they iron out a few wrinkles. This is not another Joost clone, it’s a full-on television type video streaming service – think Shoutcast or Live365 for video. The service has a number of standout cool features: Once you’re set up with an account and you’ve installed the player/broadcaster plugin, setting up…

Hawk 10 turns plastic back into oil – seagulls rejoice

Boffins at Global Resource Corporation have come up with a microwave machine dubbed the Hawk 10 which they say can recycle plastic back to oil and gas using 1200 different microwave frequencies. This has got to be pretty good news, especially when you read about the huge piles of toxic plastic scrap which are poisoning our oceans.  Key to GRC’s process is a machine that uses 1200 different frequencies within the microwave range, which act on specific hydrocarbon materials. As the material is zapped at the appropriate wavelength,…

Envirolet MS10 Composting Toilet – because your roses will thank you

The Envirolet MS10 Composting Toilet is a completely self-contained waterless electric composting toilet. No chemicals and twin fans means no smell either apparently. Which is A Good Thing. It can cope with 8 people a day for vacation use and should need emptying only once a year. Shame there’s not a solar option. Anyhoo, it’s $1,750.00.  Clean, Sanitary and Odor-Free! There are no bathroom odors. Our toilet systems feature an easy to clean, sanitary bowl design and trap that easily…

Bikeboard – year round extreme transport fun

The Bikeboard is a versatile little puppy, which converts from a standard 3 wheeler buggy to a snow board and water ski device as the weather or your needs change. The video shows it off nicely, although the water ski conversion looks a little like hard work. Priced at €2200.00, and watch out for an electric version which is apparently on the way from the Swiss manufacturers. Now if only it converted automatically in mid flight like a Transformer….whoooo!  Incredible Fun any time of the year!…

Elephant Drive – data backup that never forgets?

Elephant Drive offers a range of automated online backup and storage options using the Amazon S3 service as the back end. The free service offers 1 GB of storage, a 90 MB max file size and 1 GB of bandwidth a month which is not a bad deal at all. The Home Plan gives you unlimited storage for $9.95 a month which makes it more expensive than Carbonite by quite a way. I emailed them to ask why this was and…
