Is Ryanair turning into the Fawlty Towers airline?

[photo] Budget European airline Ryanair, famous for calling bloggers ‘lunatics and idiots’ and for planning a fat passenger tax and proposing that passengers stand up and pay for toilet use on flights, now seem have decided that flight schedules and confirmed bookings are subject to change on a whim. Having booked a flight to Brno in the Czech Republic back in June, imagine my surprise when I checked back on the booking yesterday to learn that the airline had unilaterally changed…

uPlaya Artists – do ya think your song could be a smash hit?

The new uPlaya Artists service lets you upload your own pop song to receive an evaluation of whether it could be a hit. The site uses the Hit Song Science technology which got some press a while back, to determine algorithmically whether your tune has a chance at Top 10 glory. It’s all lovely until you realise they’re also offering to help you market your song for a price, at which point the scoring feature becomes a little hmmm…… I uploaded…

LoseLose – insane computer game trashes your computer as you play

LoseLose is an absolutely insane free computer game which trashes your computer as you play. The thing works by deleting a random file on your hard disk every time you zap an alien craft. What’s more if the player’s ship is destroyed, then a program file is deleted. Or something. I’m still reeling from the first part of the proposition. For serious adrenaline junkie masochists only I’m thinking.  Lose/Lose is a video-game with real life consequences. Each alien in the game…

Fully loaded – please please buy my mobile phone, here take it…

Q: How do you tell when a market is truly saturated? A: When they start paying you to buy their products. This Samsung E1120 no contract pay as you go handset is on offer for £49.99 with £60.00 worth of airtime thrown in. Plus an extra SIM with £5.00 on it ‘for a friend’. Weird times. 2010 Hyundai Equus – the world’s first 250km/h massage chair

The new 2010 model Hyundai Equus limo apparently cost around $300 million to develop and is aimed head on at the Merc, BMW, Lexus end of the car market. You can’t fault the Koreans for bringing it to the table either, since the thing bristles with enough tech to rival the space shuttle. The £80,000 5 litre flagship model features a bulletproof option (for Soccer Moms on a mission, no doubt) as well as a 17 speaker sound system, heated steering…

Kill or Cure – definitive list of things that cause and prevent cancer…according to a newspaper

Joe Jackson once famously told us ‘Everything Gives You Cancer’, and now we can prove it via the Kill or Cure site – an alphabetically arranged database of everything the Daily Mail newspaper claims will cause or prevent cancer, depending on which day of the week it is, and how much they need to boost circulation figures. Pathetic. Tags: kill+or+cure, cancer, msm, joe+jackson

Bebe Gloton – the doll that needs breastfeeding

Apparently this Spanish Bebe Gloton toy doll comes with a handy breast-feeding kit which is strapped to the lucky owner. The sound effects then go something like – chup, chup, chup…buuurp buuuurp…ahhhh! Video. Please understand that something might have been lost in translation, but nevertheless color us flabbergasted. Priced at around $112.00. Tags: baby+gloton, doll, toy

Smartek ST-70 Ionic Closet Purifier – no more stuffy closets

Smartek ST-70 Ionic Closet Purifier will probably even get rid of the skeletons in your closet. Just look at it, it looks like the warp core of the Enterprise with a coathanger stuck on top. The Ionic Closet works using “energy saving, plasma breeze technology”, I don’t know how energy saving it is though, it needs 6 D batteries and lasts 6 months, or you can use the AC adaptor. US$21 from Amazon. Smartek ST-70 Ionic ClosetPurifier with Energy saving,…

MyDeskFriend – from Facebook’s heart, it stabs at thee

Isn’t Facebook all-consuming enough? Does it really need an extension into the real world? If you think it does then you’d better have a look at the MyDeskFriend robotic penguin Facebook companion. You can speak to it, shake it, poke and even pat it if you like, and it will respond. It will tell you when you’ve got email, roll around on your desk, pop itself back into it’s charging cradle and even avoid rolling off the edge of your…

Diddo Shark Attack Wetsuit – gruesome wet wear for surfer dudes

This rather natty Shark Attack Wetsuit by Diddo gives a whole new meaning to the phrase shock and awe. Fashionista dudes will no doubt flock to the design like seagulls to a carcass, but I’m gonna stick to being happy and style challenged in my gaudy poolside Hawaiian lounge shirt.  The first edition contains four original designs: a rusted iron diving suit evoking the days of Jules Verne, the anatomic musculature suit as a homage to our inner strength, a…

USB Auto-Scroll Mouse Pad and Hub – high tech mouse mat demonstrates excessive ambition

This rather strange USB Auto-Scroll Mouse Pad & Hub has us somewhat puzzled. Should it really have been an auto-scroll mini-projector screen, except someone read the design wrong and thought it was supposed to be horizontal and sold as a mouse mat? Who knows? Anyhoo, the long and short of it – a mouse mat with 4 USB ports, a ‘blue moody’ light and some sort of folding mechanism to make it easier to hide inside a dead mackerel. No really. $17.99.  Auto-Scroll…

PDF Pirate – lawsuit waiting to happen perhaps?

PDF Pirate looks to us like trouble brewing a-plenty. What does it do? Well apparently it removes all protection from PDF files. We haven’t tried it because we’re good boys and girls, but we’re sure that someone will spend time on there. Probably some Adobe lawyers. pdfpirate.net – free, online and no limits pdf restrictions remover Tags: online+application, pdf+converter, anti+drm

Doppelganger Robots – twin yourself with a mechanical buddy, buddy

The Xian Chaoren Sculpture Research Institute in China makes customised doppleganger robots aka your very own android twin. I think the heads and eyes move, or something like that. Apparently they’re popular with museums, exhibitions and egocentric billionaires. “I’m sorry, I can’t do that Dave”. Riiight.  Xian Chaoren is rated as a Model Company by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Arts. It is the first and the largest Chinese company to specialize in simulated silica gel figures (super-realistic sculptures). Its work has…
