Novel tech.

I do like the idea behind the Technovelgy.com site. Linking real life inventions with fictional ideas from science fiction books. They weren’t too shabby, those old SF writers. ‘Where science meets fiction…Explore the wide variety of inventions and ideas of science fiction writers..and watch sf come to life..’

Wish U were here?

Snap-n-Print. I’ve just fallen in to this ‘MMS to postcard’ thing and reckon that it’s actually quite cool. Lots of people have cameraphones, but lots of grannies don’t. Lots of vacation snaps also demand sharing – instantly. ‘Snap-n-Print is a downloadable application that allows compatible camera phone users to create and send personalized photo images as postcards through the U.S. Mailall from the phone itself!’

RSS shtuff.

I’ve had a few Ferrety reader emails about the broken images in our RSS feed. Me mate Ben – truly the Obi-Wan of RSS – tells me ‘ahh, it’s because you’re putting HTML in the description element. It’s not wrong, per se, it’s just that the standard for RSS 0.92 is a bit hazy on whether you can, and if so how you do it.’ Thanks dude! So there you have it, peeps. For the moment, until I change blog…

Voice tracking.

One of the real problems with computer based voice systems, whether Skype type voip or general voice recognition/dictation, is that you’re pretty much tied to the microphone. Which is why the Voice Tracker array microphone is interesting. $249.00. ‘Unlike 1st generation array microphones which have a fixed “listen” direction, the Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker Array Microphone automatically locates and electronically steers toward the talker. For speech recognition applications, it is no longer necessary to sit rigidly in front of the…

The No S Diet.

The No S Diet. I like it. Simple. 14 words. I also love this FAQ – Q. Is there any scientific evidence that this diet works? A. Absolutely none. But I’m not aware that I have any competition in this regard. There are just three rules and one exception: No Snacks No Sweets No Seconds Except (sometimes) on days that start with ‘s’ That’s it.

Broadband deluxe.

You know when a technology is starting to pick up steam when creative products start arriving on the scene. Like the bonded Copperstream ADSL product from the UK’s Griffin Internet. 16Mbps downloads through copper? Wow, and we’ve been using it just for crackly voice calls for 100 years? Sheesh!. ‘Using Channel Bonding hardware you can connect between 2 and 8 ADSL lines together and take advantage of the increased upload and download rate provided…In order to implement this service you…

Don’t fret!

Woo-hoo, not only does the ActionTab site offer a pretty neat – and free – method of guitar tuition, with fully animated fretboard action and all, but it features Stairway To Heaven as well. Now at last, a way to hold your head up high in guitar shops! Or not.

PDA books.

The ManyBooks site offers over 10,000 Project Gutenberg free ebooks in a PDA friendly format. Nice. And yes, I am probably one of the only Ferrets in the world who has read the whole of the Lord of The Rings on a Palm m505. And enjoyed it just as much as the first time around. And I know that it’s not a Gutenberg book, and yes I bought the book first to clear copyright issues with my soul!
