Skype Headset.

SkypeHeadset. Hah, not what you think. Actually it’s a software program. Which lets you control Skype from your generically vanilla mobile phone Bluetooth headset. Not bad eh? So you can answer, hang up and dial out (one contact only) while wandering around your mansion, as long as it’s no further than 10 metres away as the cat flies. Neat. Not super cheap at $20.00/£10.00, but a free trial is available.  SkypeHeadset is a software application that seamlessly connects a Bluetooth headset…

Nu Ride, for nubiles.

Why are they smiling? Because they’re taking apparently taking advantage of NuRide, a strangely unimpressive service to encourage ride sharing where it’s so desperately needed. Why unimpressive, you ask, with a Skinny Decaf Latte en route to your lips. Well the rewards suck, for starters. A $25.00 gift voucher to TGI Fridays? For sharing your 70 minute ride with a corpulent toothbrush salesman from Idaho? Hmm….   NuRiding is similar to airline travel but for your car. You plan your trips online and…

Ye Olde Flight Computers.

USAF Vintage Flight Computers. Will they one day look back at our super swish 6000MHz, terrabyte gobbling PCs and snigger, as we do when we see these relics from a recent past? Of course they won’t, because they will be altogether nicer, more civilised folk than we. $19.95.  These, vintage ’40s-’50s, were used by USAF pilots to calculate true airspeed and correct altitude. Maker’s marks on instruments; issue dates on original packaging. Set of two, each approx. 9″ diam.

Tire Tagz.

Tire Tagsz. If your car could speak it would say – you’re kidding right? Well OK, it would probably say Speed Freak, or Full Flava or P.I.M.P or any one of a selection of erudite and illuminating (!) phrases using this programmable LED ‘wheel messaging’ system. I can think of a message. No really!  TireTagz utilises ingenious technology originally developed as an advertising medium for race cars. A device is installed onto an alloy wheel, fixing safely within the…

The Accordion Music Server.

The Accordion Server. Dude, if you’re going to have a music server hanging around, why not make it…like…musical? Waaay too Greek wedding and Retsina for this Ferret though. Arf!  My friend Jim Wiggins and I have been working on a special case mod for a music server. Here are some photos of the completed computer showing the steps I took during the process of converting an Enrico Bertini accordion into a SUSE Linux RAID5 server to play our library of…

Local host.

LocalHost. Very interesting Java based Open Source online file sharing application which combines a kind of wiki-like group access and editing facilty with the BitTorrent engine. What’s really funky is that the more popular a file or folder is, the more accessible it is. Still under heavy development by the looks of it (needs a nicer UI) so don’t cuss about the access speeds. Neat and definitely worth a download. [Thanks Tom]  You can change any folder (including the root…

Rock n’Roll Fantasy.

The Rock n’ Roll Fantasy Camp. So let’s see. I plunk down $8400.00 of the jolly green folding kind, and in return I get 5 days and nights hanging out in a camp with an assorted bunch of rockers from bands like Kiss and Bad Company, and then at the end of it all get to play live on stage with Roger Daltry of The Who, Cheap Trick, and fellow rawk hall of fame refugees? I’m agog, agape and aghast. Now where did…
