Crytstal Bubble – clear portable living rooms make you part of nature itself

There’s no question that modern materials have revolutionized living spaces, but for the most part these advances have been fairly conventional in style. However one enterprising French designer has taken a whole new direction in terms of harmonious accommodation with his new bubble room idea.

Londoners enjoy Christmas with a uniquely powered Christmas tree

There are a number of effective renewable energy sources, wind and solar perhaps being the best known. But who would have thought that the lowly brussel sprout would be included in that group? The Designworks group has built the world’s first Brussels sprout-powered battery and hooked it up to a set of Christmas tree lights in London. After a survey found that most children in the UK would like to take Brussels sprouts off of the traditional Christmas menu, the…

Mixbit – new app from the YouTube founders is designed to let you edit phone videos together

Apps like Vine and Video on Instagram have proved that people really seem to enjoy taking quick snippets of video with their phones and posting them online. The really strange thing is we, the unwashed public, seem to enjoy watching them as well, which really does blow the mind a little.

Viewster – TV shows and movies at the click of a button

There’s a growing number of sites devoted to delivering movies to us, which is good news for those of us who enjoy a bit of down time now and then. The movies on offer are typically not blockbuster affairs (but is that surprising, considering how few there are nowadays?) but come from the perpetual B and C movie machine which never stops churning.

Grime Writer – make like an artist and transform the dirt into beautiful

We can’t all be Banksy and wander around the street creating mind-blowing art, but that shouldn’t stop us trying. And lots do. There’s an Azerbaijani parking attendant, for example, who’s created quite a name for himself through his amazing artwork on grubby cars, so much so that people are now deliberately leaving their vehicles dirty to have his handiwork displayed on their car.

Concrete tiles add a touch of elegance indoors or out

Among the newer architectural and interior decorating styles, concrete seems to be making headway. We’re not talking about the dull gray or gray-white sidewalk stuff but rather beautifully designed, stylized concrete such as Crips Concrete tiles. Created by designer Levi Fignar, these elegant looking tiles come in a variety of styles and colors. Glassy and reflective, they offer a modern, often delicate-looking finish. And they’ll definitely be a conversation piece. Still, they also provide a look of luxury, even while…

Red Hull footbridge combines conservation with remarkable style

Footbridges and conservation have gone together for some time. There are footbridges that allow wildlife to safely cross highways and others strictly for two-legged folks. And it does it with a unique style and grace. Designed by the British architectural firm McDowell & Benedetti, this innovative £6.5 million hi-tech footbridge won an international…
