Newspaper Club – make your own printed newspaper and craft an empire…buwahahaha

Newspaper Club is one of those crazy ideas which is so out there that it might just work. A bunch of enterprising folk have located some spare printing capacity on a London newspaper printing press, and are renting it out to anyone to create their own printed tabloids. You can produce a maximum of 12 pages per edition, complete with images and colour. You get a choice of tools, ranging from an in-house editor to a file upload tool which…

Barky – A tree turned into a turntable

Barky is a working LP turntable made from a gen-u-wine authentic slice of tree, complete with bark. The platter is a solid piece of glass for stability and the whole thing rests on three height-adjustable legs. Why? Dunno, but it looks pretty darn cool. It’s part of a catalogue of wood-based turntables turned out by a bloke called Joel Scilley and his company AudioWood. Check out the catalogue too. The Barky will set you back about US$1350. A pitch-perfect piece…

Mizuken – Flashy Tokyo-style LED watch

If you like your Tokyo-style LED watches with a side of back story, then let me introduce the Mizuken. The story goes that it’s crafted from dragon-entrapping sapphire, reborn as blue LEDs and secured to your wrist via dragon scale. Or it’s an LED watch displaying hours, minutes and the date via blue LEDs, with a stainless steel band to keep it where you put it. Runs on a pair of CR2032 batteries and comes in a lovely tin. Best…

Ashworth Turtle – A very subtle knife

The Ashworth Turtle isn’t quite a Swiss-Army Knife but it still has a couple of tricks up it’s quirky looking sleeve. For starters there’s a 1″ stubby fold out blade made of high carbon stainless steel. At the other end is a flip-out pendant/keychain loop. The back unscrews and you can add a money clip to keep your stash together. US$39.99 or US$49.99 depending on the colour. Click through to see how it works. … this is a useful pen…

Duwende – free album for download, grab it and run…

Duwende is a six part a cappella group from New York that have been making waves (is that how you say it in cool?). Well they’ve now released their latest album, Collective, on free download from their site, which is both extremely generous and very intelligent from a marketing point of view. Nice to see stuff like this filtering out into the indie music business, I hope it works out well for them.  In the 2002 Independent Music World Series, the…

PostCarden – The garden you can post

PostCarden is a cute idea that allows you to send a far-from-boring greeting card. It’s a packet of cress seeds and a pop-up scene to hold them while they grow. Choose from one of three scenes including a Cityscape, Botanical Conservatory or an Alotment. Plant the cress, water it and bung it in the sun. In a week you’ll have a little garden growing. Don’t forget to write a message on the back. 7.50 each. For our first product we…
