You’ve heard of Ikea Hacking, well this is nothing like it. Adultery, hitmen, long lost twin brothers, intrigue and Billy bookcases, it’s all here, complete with non-working taps. Episodes 1 – 4 are online now. Ikea Heights is a melodrama shot entirely in the Burbank California Ikea Store without…

Style Your Garage – awesome garage tarps give your drab door a rich makeover

These Style Your Garage billboard tarpaulins turn your drab garage door into a work of art, and a personal statement to boot. Just choose your image from the long list, and stick it to your up and over garage door with the supplied Velcro strips. What an ace idea, but unfortunately these wouldn’t last 10 minutes in the big city before some yob turned up and stole the thing. Still, great, love it! From around £144.00 each. [Via] Tags: style+your+garage, gadget

Easy 3D Creator – freeware screensaver maker

Easy 3D Creator is a freeware program for making cute little screensavers for your computer. You remember screensavers right? They were invented to prevent screen burn on old CRT monitors. Now they’re just a toy for the rich and affluent with no real value at all. But who cares eh? Not I, Mrs Miggins, not I.  With Easy 3D Creator you can create stunning 3D screen savers in a few minutes with no programming. All you need is to set…

Matmos Fireflow R1 – the first ever tea-light powered lava lamp

The Matmos Fireflow R1 sounds more like a racing car than a piece of household furniture, but nonetheless it’s notable for being the first of its kind to run solely off a tea light. Yep, no more planet destroying electrical power to heat that oil. This puppy uses those small candles to do the job, which will no doubt soothe the souls of all 60’s bread heads now craving for a more ecologically groovy yeah icon. Inspired by the 40th anniversary of…

Taste of Talking Salt and Pepper Shakers – Move over Bakelite

Yesterday’s design revolution is tomorrow’s kitsch, and with the Taste of Talking Salt and Pepper Shakers the circle is complete. Made from the the speaker and mic covers of old white telephones (hopefully washed) and mounted onto the indicator covers from a Morris Mini, the Taste of Talking should spice* up even the dullest dinner. Actually they’re not kitsch, I like ’em. No good on a boat though. US$22. *Sorry but I had to say that. No really, they made…

Diddo Shark Attack Wetsuit – gruesome wet wear for surfer dudes

This rather natty Shark Attack Wetsuit by Diddo gives a whole new meaning to the phrase shock and awe. Fashionista dudes will no doubt flock to the design like seagulls to a carcass, but I’m gonna stick to being happy and style challenged in my gaudy poolside Hawaiian lounge shirt.  The first edition contains four original designs: a rusted iron diving suit evoking the days of Jules Verne, the anatomic musculature suit as a homage to our inner strength, a…

10 Really Weird Printers – spreading the message with style

All too often printers are the victim of their own functionality. Because they’re so good at placing ink onto bits of paper, people choose to ignore the creative capacity of these clever machines. Thankfully there’s a select group of valiant pioneers pushing the boundaries of print technology in weird and wonderful directions, inventing and building unusual (and occasionally pointless) printing machines. Here we take a look at 10 of the wackiest printers around. [Photo from Flickr]

Memoryshare – head on down memory lane via the BBC

The beeb has created a cute project to record people’s memories, but we’re not talking electrodes and skull caps. Memoryshare is a portal where people can add their thoughts and stories to a timeline heading back to 1900. Everyone is free to explore and contribute their thoughts however my recollections of 1900 are just a little hazy. What’s all this got to do with Davros? Absolutely nothing, he was just sliding by on a banner. BBC Memoryshare is a living…

Ned Kelly USB flash drive – Aussie icon now USB flash drive

I just spotted this on ChipChick and couldn’t resist posting it. It’s a hand carved Ned Kelly USB flash drive for sale on Etsy. US$70 and there’s only one. Ned Kelly was a famous Australian bushranger or outlaw, and has been the subject of many books and films (including the world’s first feature film). He and his gang made a last stand against the police wearing distinctive bush-made armour which was effectively bullet-proof. Nice one MikaEle!
