Mobile Car Garage – for those times when you need protection in a hurry

We’re not entirely sure how this works, but there’s apparently a need for mobile car garages out there in this crazy wide world. The concept of needing to protect a hunk of rusting metal against the elements is probably very logical if you’re a piston-head, but we’re wondering what purpose it will serve to those of us with more modest ambitions?

Peugeot 208 fuel consumption world record shows how peak oil is having a real effect

A standard 1.6 liter BlueHDi Peugeot 208 car has just set a new long distance fuel consumption record by clocking up an astonishing 141.2 mpg. That’s a miserly 2.0l/ 100km. The car drove for a total of 2,152 kilometers (778 miles) on a test track in France using just 43 liters of diesel fuel. That’s got to be less than a tank full!

Fonkraft – the world’s first crowdfunded modular smartphone, or a gigantic Austrian prank/scam?

We’ve been warning about over enthusiasm in the crowdfunding world for a while now, and now a new project has popped up which triggers every alarm bell we’ve got. The new product is Fonkraft, billed as the ‘world’s first crowdfunded modular smartphone‘, which is basically a rival to the long-standing Project Ara concept being built by a Google sponsored team. [UPDATE: Aaand….it’s gone!] :)

DryBath – what if you could take a nice smelling bath anywhere, anytime… ?

We take it for granted, but water is not universally available to all. Even where there are loads of running water taps, there are situations where it may not be possible or feasible to use a lot of it in doing something like taking a bath. Which is where this clever product comes into play.

Toyota cars are now being attacked by hungry squirrels – and we’re not kidding!

Toyota may have a problem on its hands. With the company’s increasing focus on using natural and environmentally-friendly materials, they seem to be offering a tempting feast for Nature’s opportunists. There have been several recent reports of Toyota car owners discovering their cars have been vandalized. One report showed a south Florida family’s Toyota Sequoia SUV had two 6-inch panels ripped from the outside of the car. Another, from Croydon, South London, England, found that a Toyota Aygo! sported a…

The Dom’Up Treehouse – good for the environment but tough on your wallet

If you love the idea of a treehouse and want something innovative and easy on the environment, Dom’Up could fit the bill. This “life tree platform” – invented by Dutch arboriculturist Bruno de Grunne and architect Nicolas d’Ursel from Trees and People – takes the best of tree camping and utilizes Trees and People’s No Trace arboreal hanging system. With its low impact on surrounding trees, Dom’Up is made from galvanized steel and natural wooden flooring. It comes with a…

Cuddle Clones – send them a photo of your pet, get a cuddly plush lookalike back in return

It’s a bit unfair that we humans live longer than our pets, isn’t it? Why couldn’t all animals be like giant tortoises or elephants and have a lifespan approximating ours? Although thinking about it, that might cause a bit of a problem in terms of elderly care. Anyhoo, for those pet owners dreading the inevitable day, here’s a nice little option which could make the loss slightly less painful.

Goldgenie Dozen Roses With 24K Gold Rose – what do you give the person with everything? Bling…!

We’re not sure whether the whole V Day in February thing is actually a worthy occasion or just an excuse for the world to over-indulge in too much dark chocolate, but hey, we’re not opposed to a bit of genuine romance. It would be churlish.

Vision – online free eye test not quite ready for prime time

We stumbled across a new site the other day which promises to provide an on-screen eye test service using nothing more exotic than your monitor and a smartphone. The project is clearly still in beta (because there’s a big beta badge on it) so we’re happy to give it a bit of slack, but there is one huge problem which the developers seem to have overlooked.

Suitsy – the comfy business suit onesie that says everything about your taste and style

Dress Down Fridays have proved that people feel less than comfortable in conventional business attire, which is probably why more and more firms are introducing these casual dress days to their calendar. It’s probably something to do with the ties and collars, or maybe it’s just the hassle of having to wear so many bits of clothing to maintain the proper appearance. But now there’s another way to do things.

Lantern – does the world need another constant blanket data stream right now?

It looks like you can never have too much information, right? We’ve got teh Internets, 24/7, cable, satellite, terrestrial and IP TV, mobile internet, FM radio and even quaint text services if you know where to look. But it’s not enough. Apparently we need more.

Ocean Spiral – a 21st century underwater city

With the world population slated to reach 9 billion people, housing becomes a real problem. But Japanese construction firm Shimizu Corp has an innovative idea to solve this. Ocean Spiral is planned as an eco-friendly underwater city that would house 5,000 people and be powered by the sea bed. An artist’s rendering shows the futuristic structure divided into three sections. A floating sphere – the “Blue Garden” – will be 500 meters (approx. 1,640 feet) in diameter. It will lie…

Dry Mud Jeans – rent your jeans, recycle them when done and help conserve your planet’s resources

Denim jeans are a huge business around the world, but the one thing we kind of ignore is what happens to all that lovely cotton when we’re done with it? Landfill? Well now there’s a really innovative alternative which promises to change the way we approach the use of fashion and clothing in general.

Fresh Paper – keep your fruit and veggies fresher longer with a single sheet of paper

So everyone loves a nice bit of fruit now and then, and there are even those who delight in a decent bit of broccoli with their meals. But the problem is fresh produce tends to go off pretty quickly, which means you end up throwing a lot of it away unless you can eat it quickly. But this ingenious product promises to reduce waste and keep your stuff fresher for longer. 꾾ᴢ
